We need 10 or 11 players in the squad to cover the forward/attacker positions.
The 4 who start a game, the other 4 that inevitably finish it, and then 2 or 3 others to cover for injuries & suspensions which allow for this complete switch to take place.
At the moment we already have 3 significant injuries to players who would be considered part of the 8 getting matchday minutes if everyone were fit - Hirst, Burns & Broadhead - they are all weeks away from returning & getting up to match fitness, so we'll really have to have 3 replacements available to us post the window closing, so 11 in total.
We are signing versatile players, who can play along the line & crucially are all decent finishers, with strong conversion figures, but ultimately it's still a numbers game when you employ the press like we do & require such energy usage from the forwards.
The guaranteed to remain are:
Broja, Delap & Hirst
Hutchinson & Burns
Szmodics & Chaplin
Clarke (assuming it's confirmed) & Broadhead.
9 in total.
So we need to keep Harness, who can play all along the line as cover, and probably Al Hamadi now too, who isn't a centre forward in the same mould as the other 3 re: hold up play, but is quick, very direct, can play wide, & is confident in taking on a strike when the opportunity arises. We can also look at Jack Taylor as an option in the #10 role, particularly now that we are well covered with central midfielders.
Personally, I'd prefer Al Hamadi to get a full season on loan in the Championship, as it would be great for him to be playing regularly at that level, unlike the minutes he'll get here; but with 3 players probably out until October at least, we probably can't risk him going before January. Broja and Clarke would take it to 27, is that correct? So we part company with Ladapo and send Taylor on loan, that brings it back down to 25. Fridge goes for a central defender and Slicker goes on loan for another keeper. That still gives us room to bring in another striker if we loan Al Hamadi doesn’t it?
If Hirst is ok then it becomes moot because we won’t need 4 strikers competing for one start. [Post edited 23 Aug 2024 7:27]

Good point about needing to move players on (we're at 25 already even before Broja), although I see the OP's point too; we ended the season with 4 options who could play No.9 (Moore, Hirst, AAH, Jackson) I look at Delap as the Jackson replacement (can play RW as well as 9 - we know KMcK likes a player with a bit of physicality in that role with Burns) - if Broja is our Moore replacement and AAH goes out on loan, we're one light in that department. |  |

Hirst is now more than half way through his eight weeks, which will also include an international break.
Can't see the logic in us spending loads and, more importantly, taking up space in the registered squad, for such short-term cover. |  |

It’s a shame but he was bought to help consolidate us in the Championship. Dint think he’s anywhere near a Premier League player. Don’t see how he makes the match day squad when everyone is fit. | |

Was a big fan when he signed but for that level.
But even in his appearence sat. He was the only one imo who looked so far away from this level I just can't see where he fits in | |

Yep, I think we'll let him go permanently too. There's clearly a good player in there but has just never fitted into our system. It would be a waste for him and us to have him here. We could loan him out in case we get relegated and Cajuste goes back to Napoli, but I think it's fairer on Jack to let him find another home where he's getting game time. Also, we lose value on him if we do decide to sell him anyway next season. |  | | |
