On a scale of life is ending to couldn't care less where are you this season? 08:18 - Aug 30 with 1000 views | Asa | I have just witnessed two back to back promotion seasons of 96 and 98 points with near 100 goal seasons in both where we seemed to beat everyone everywhere. We've gone from Marcus Evans penny pinching to sensible owners investing £100m upwards on the squad this season because they are happy we can do so regardless of whether we go up or down. Two years ago I went to Burton, Forest Green and Accrington in August / September. Last weekend I was at the home of the Champions of England, a team that won the Champions League just over a year ago. Of course I care. But the worst case scenario next season is we are in the Championship and one of the promotion favourites. If we'd been in the Championship this year and finished well enough to then be favourites next year we'd have all snapped your hand off this time 12 months ago for that sort of progress. We are ahead of schedule. This season of course isn't a 'free hit' but as close to it as possible. After 22 years, half my lifetime, away from the Premier League I intend to just enjoy every moment and hope that come May it's been fun enough to want it to last. Part of me always sort of dreaded becoming a mid-table Premier League side year after year knowing we couldn't push on but these owners give me confidence we could become a Brighton one day and be in the European conversation in those seasons. Long way to go but struggling to understand people having meltdowns about losing to two of the greatest teams in the land, with performances that had lots of positives, whilst bedding in a whole new team of players we couldn't have dreamed of signing as recently as last season! I feel sorry for anyone looking for negatives this season. We won't disgrace ourselves, I think we'll stay up and I think we'll struggle a little for the next couple of months and then we'll start to kick on massively. For me this season is one just to be enjoyed. If ever there was a season not to be stressed it's this one. The fact we are here is outrageous. The worst case scenario, being relegated, losing McKenna etc is likely to put us where we'd have all been happy to be at the start of 25/26 - as a Championship team with an amazing squad for the level, likely to be able to recruit a top manager, with a fantastic reputation, CEO and ownership group and with plenty of very saleable assets if we needed or wanted to cash in. It'll come good, I'm sure of it. Think I read somewhere that 11 of 19 Premier League teams last year got nothing more than 1 point from Man City away and Liverpool home and a few would have had a worse goal difference in that too. Tomorrow will be another bloody hard slog. They are a good team. Every one at this level is. But it's another packed house to savour in the big time. We've been spoilt rotten the last couple of years. Really just looking forward to the few new Premier League grounds I've not been to and revisiting a few old ones with a couple of amazing days and results thrown in. [Post edited 30 Aug 2024 8:42]

"Some concerns were raised after the Wimbledon game." BlueRuin69 added 22:03 - Aug 28 McKenna has destroyed this team in a few short weeks by adding too many new players and not trusting the band of brothers that got us here. Why play players who have just walked through the door, joke.

The sheer amount of money spent means there is a bit more expectation and pressure on this season. As you say we are miles ahead of schedule but the money spent means relegation could be damaging (though hopefully we could make a big chunk of shortfall up on selling players who hopefully perform). As long as we don't completely meltdown this season I'm ok. Even if that means relegation where we are still in a position of strength i.e. players increase in experience/value etc.

In league one it was near impossible (apart from MK Dons) because of the tiny allocations. Now demand is through the roof, some of the allocations are a joke to be honest given ground sizes - why would greedy clubs do loads of 32 quid capped away tickets when they can sell them to home fans for 100 quid. Aside from that home games are now very difficult to get tickets for - the ballot should be a far larger allocation for previous members. Less games are on TV. At the end of the day football is still a spectator sport, if you can’t watch on tv and you can’t attend what’s the point. The PL is just as overrated a product as I expected. Being able to attend or stream every EFL game, and more competitive leagues made it a far more appealing experience. Edit - apologies for going ‘full Elephant’ [Post edited 30 Aug 2024 9:04]

There’ll be some ups and some (hopefully fewer) downs. Some moments of euphoria and some ranting. In other words, like any other season. I’ll enjoy the experience however it goes, albeit from the other side of a TV screen unfortunately.
