No let’s take one away so others can build an extra one to make up for it. The demand for the specific type of coal was there so it will happen, just not here now.

to feed our over-consumption.

even china's coal usage is thought to have peaked and their clean energy usage dwarfs pretty much everywhere else. fossil fuels are the past and massively damaging for china as well as us

Think she’d only approve if it involved police brutality and some miners getting a damn good kickin.

I'm sorry was this decided in Parliament or in the courts? I note your take on a different thread too that the NHS was never at risk of being privatised by the Tories as it was never nationalised. #clutchingatstraws

It is proper to note that this was a court decision demonstrating the last government to have acted unlawfully again.

The change of government did not lead to this decision which would have been the same regardless of the election. The difference is that this government wont actively take the coal company's side in contesting it.

calm down leaky, you know as well as anyone that the tories would have happily fought/attemped to defy the courts whereas labour have made it very clear that no new licences would be issued.

but obviously it makes no diference whatsoever who you vote for.

weird take on the nhs, clearly the tories would love to privatise it totally, labour wouldn't.

but obviously it makes no diference whatsoever who you vote for.

Meanwhile under The Australian Labor Party ...

Australia's greenhouse gas emissions were 467 million tonnes in the year ending June 2023.

That's an increase of four million tonnes on the previous year according to the nation's statutory agency The Climate Change Authority.

Go Aussie go ...

Don't shoot the messenger ... the point is we've never had it CO2 good since the 1870s when albeit another bloody Tory, Benjamin Disraeli, was in Downing Street.

Im not shooting the messenger. You appear to be suggesting the tories had done well on this and was inviting comment on how we have done relative to our peers....

...and I think this government, flawed though it may be, would not be so breathtakingly irresponsible as to take such a decision in the first place.

Per capita we have the 24th highest Co2 output in Europe (source: IEA).
