We lost 4 of first 7 games and had 5 points. Our next game was against Everton and it was 0-0.

That season wasn’t all doom and gloom at one point we topped the form table after beating Spurs the last game before Christmas, we won 6 out of 7 games.

We did of course muck it up completely after that with an awful run of defeats.

Had we beaten Bolton away, instead of playing just like yesterday, they would have been relegated instead of Town.

All is not lost this season but we do need to pick up 3 points next game.

I don’t expect wholesale changes for the next game. We just need to regroup. Everton will not be a push over they are undefeated in 3.

Would have been seven out of seven if we hadn't blown a 2-0 lead away at Charlton, I think it was. And after the seventh we had a three week break with no football that broke the rhythm. The next game was Liverpool at home. We went 1-0 down early on , Jamma was crocked, Burley brought on a winger to go gungho and we were mercilessly picked off. Heavy defeat and we never got our mojo back. I believe the three week break was due to Blackburn having a league cup final, which they won.

Made me check accuracy of my post, needs some corrections. It was 7 wins from 8 and yes we should have won at The Valley. We didn’t draw with Everton we beat them, it was the game I missed out.

We won our second game, against Derby in August and didn’t win a league game again until we beat Spurs FOUR months later. Yet going into February we were comfortable in 14th place.

We were in charge of that Charlton game and then Scott Parker made a really strong foul on Matt Holland and the ref let him off for it and they wrestled control of the match.

I seem to recall a home match against Chelsea where there was a penalty decision that went against us too.

Slight correction - the three week break came between Liverpool and Southampton. The 6-0 drubbing was on 9th February, whilst the follow up Chris Marsden special was on 2nd March, with no games in between.

Did we make the League Cup semi finals that year or was that the season before?

Wasn't it bolton away that kinda blew our survival chances? Can't remember why exactly but just remember being really glum that we'd lost that game.

thanks for the correction, I was too lazy to check and relied on a slightly faulty memory. That Marsden goal was a real one off for him, I doubt he did anything like it before or since.

I checked it as well, you are right it was 7 out of 8. After that 8th game we dared to think of the possibility of European places. How wrong we were. Dale Roberts battle with cancer and eventual death was a big loss for Burley.

we were totally gutless that day, just were not up for the fight. Lost 4-1 ? With the hard games we still had to play, it was all over that day.

Not sure there was a penalty decision go against us vs Chelsea. Marcus Bent's effort was saved.

I was at that game. Ref bottled a DOGSO sending off and only gave a yellow - mostly because the home team were 2-0 down so quickly. Pitch was partly frozen in the area and Sereni didn't fancy touching the ground. He switched to Marshall shortly afterwards and it didn't go any better.....

Season before - lost in the semis against Birmingham; St Andrews was a quagmire IIRC.
