We need to win 8 games from here 00:20 - Dec 9 with 1601 viewsonceablue

Which would get us to 33 points and maybe enough to stay up

We have 23 games left

It is possible but we must beat Wolves and Newcastle to give us a bit of momentum

We have lost 15 points from winning positions

We have never managed to get 2 in front at home either which doesn’t help

The 15 points from winning stat positions is pretty meaningless.

Two problems:

a) 33 points won't be enough
b) We'll be lucky to win 2 based on 1 in 15.

Actually it’s probably one of the more relevant stats. It shows a team which lacks strength in depth from the bench and players with the inability to maintain performance levels for the full match.

It highlights the point that we are good enough to compete at this level if or periods of time but lack the ability to see games out.

I haven’t looked at the stats but reckon we have probably scored fewest goals in the second half of matches and possibly conceded the most in the last 30.

Without looking, I suspect you aren't far wrong.

I think we can compete in this division, but most games it's only for around 70-75 minutes. The last third of the game seems like an eternity and when we have to make changes, the drop off in quality is so stark compared to our opponents.

What we are seeing is the opposite of what has been happening the last two seasons and a little explanation to those fans of other clubs who labelled us 'lucky' for all the late goals. It's nothing of the sort, it's having the quality in depth and the ability to go for a whole 90-100 mins.

What's the likely survival total likely to be currently?

Earlier in the season I reckoned it would be a record low points total to stay up, sadly the likes of Palace and Leicester seem to be picking up

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

Last season, 33 would've been enough, maybe even 32 on GD. I reckon it will be around 36/37 this year with Leicester still in the biggest danger along with us and Saints, who are likely to be under 25-30 points (unless things shift)

Forest and Everton survived comfortably despite point deductions. The relegated three conceded nearly 270 goals between them.

The three promoted sides went straight down and we joined two already doped and established clubs back up.

For the third consecutive year, we have ended up in a division at the worst time.

Last season 26 would have been enough if you'd have had a better goal difference than Luton.

Good point. I was looking at Forest's total.

We are currently mirroring Luton in terms of points at this stage of the season, they went on a little mid-season run and then tailed off so still very possible and Kieran did say we would improve as the season progressed.

I thnk it's about staying in touch as we improve over the season and strengthen in January. How good we are in the second half of the season will be the defining factor more than the first half.

Here you go!

https://www.soccerstats.com/halftime.asp?league=england

1st Half
GF - 10
GA - 14

2nd Half
GF - 4
GA - 13

So our attacking play drops off a cliff 2nd half.

I'd have agreed with this if we were seeing some form of linear improvement but after a 5 game spell of seeing us improve in most metrics the last 3 have been back to the "norm" or earlier part of the season.

January for a relegation-threatened club is rarely a gamechanger. Like, really rarely. Prem quality players have the choice of established clubs or waiting till the summer. Overseas signings wouldn't have time to adjust to the pace of the Prem.

Think it will be 38 this year certainly much more than last year looking at how a lot of the 'lesser' teams have started.
