He’s definitely been managing something for a while, it’s been evident even in the warm up a few weeks ago he didn’t look right. Then came off at h/t against Newcastle. It was game over but I think he would’ve stayed on if there was more to play for. Feels to me like it’s been managed for a while, certainly a big blow though. He’s so so important

That’s why we need to keep managing Delap and his minutes. There are plenty of morons on here who constantly main when he comes off as the drop in quality to Ali is huge, but if he was injured as a result which is quite possible bearing in mind the shift he puts in every game for any length of time we’d be totally f**ked. Hopefully Hirst and a new striker will be available for the Brighton & Man City games, and definitely for Saints as we need our best team and subs for that must win game. We probably need to win 5 of the last 18 to stay up allowing for say 4 draws

If he was carrying an injury, why risk doing a back flip? Looked good though.

They need to be high intensity as those are the levels you face on a match day

I doubt it, you wouldn't be doing backflips if you were carrying an injury.
| Trust the process. Trust Phil. |

Probably got a lot to do with it. But it’s also these high intensity training sessions that have resulted in back to back promotions and a being a competitive premier league team in under 2 years. It’s a far cry from Cookie having banter with the lads whilst drinking a cup of tea.

We don't want to think... that the backflip aggravated the injury....

I agree, they've been flogged more than we ideally would've liked them to be out of necessity, and there's often a consequence. They're both young and the physical output in those roles is huge. The issue isn't Delap's fitness, it's not having another Delap (or anything close) to bring on at 60 minutes.

I would agree with you in part. But I do feel that consistent high intensity training, does eventually lead to athletes sustaining injuries. There surely has to be a balance in training sessions, and one might argue, why are we at this stage in the season, still asking to players to train at 90-100% ?
