I'd be amazed if they can get out of it all, but a pitful points deduction that doesnt really affect them other than maybe missing Europe . Can they impose transfer bans or anything?

I'm pretty sure that if found guilty of most charges they'll be gone. I listened to the podcast where most of those quotes came from and came away thinking there's a real chance they'll be gone. McGuire knows his stuff. The league have spent millions on their case - they won't then just give a slap on the wrist to City.

The problem will be making it stick. City will be employing the best legal team possible to fight this. Leicester's ability to make a mockery of the rules and escape any punishment up to now doesn't fill me with any confidence that the PL will be able to enforce, City's legal team are bound to pick holes in the laws/rulings.

You'd hope they come up with a punishment that goes across multiple seasons, as deducting 100 points is well rather pointless when a 40 point penalty might relegate them. Maybe the remainder wait for their subsequent promotion and they start on -60. Of course, if they could apply the penalty this season, along with Leicester that would be rather handy for us!
: ) on 13:37 - Jan 9 with 1214 views | Samuelowen88 | Problem is, as the charges cover previous years as well, there will no doubt be other clubs who were relegated, who will then sue. "Man C should have had their punishment the year we were relegated"

PL can't impose something that would effect them in the Football League. I tend to think that it'll be a one off punishment.

McGuire goes on to say that there is not really grounds to appeal unless some procedure hasn't been followed

I think when a club's relegated the Parachute payments are made by the Premier League, despite the team now playing in a league in which they have no jurisdiction. So if the Premier League wanted to punish them on a slightly longer term basis, could they issue a points deduction large enough to guarantee relegation and withhold parachute payments?

It doesn't stop City from threatening to sue for large wads of cash if they see it as not following the letter of the law. The PL do quite like large wads of cash too, so would likley be worried about the potential of losing any!

They could impose a financial penalty yes. All I say is taken from the podcast - it does say that part f the negotiation could be to not penalise financially too severely.

: ) on 15:19 - Jan 9 with 832 views | Len_Brennan | I had heard a theory before Christmas, that City had been advised that they will be getting a relegation level points deduction out of this, & their inexplicable slump in form may well be explicable after all. Rhodri may be a world class midfieler, but losing him cannot be enough, on it's own, to explain how that side just fell off a cliff all of a sudden. I have no facts to back it up, but I am certainly less surprised to see reports & interviews like this, since hearing that.

£60m each apparently. Which means, should the league lose they get a £120m legal bill, which will come from all 20 clubs.
