Janoi: A little bit late, and a post I have kind of made before 02:41 - Jan 13 with 2078 viewswkj

Came in under a manager who had no clue what the championship was like. Went on have a couple of managers who shipped him out on loan.

What did he do? Complain about the club on social media? Gave up on the pitch? Go AWOL with his toys out the pram? Either one of those things wouldn't seem abnormal in the modern game, but no -

He came back, took his chance when needed, really dug in to help us in the first promotion and was more than useful when called upon for the second. Meanwhile becoming one of the most loved and respected players in the dressing room.

I know sentiment doesn't win games in Football, but it was a nice daydreaming thought that both he and Jackson might land a cameo in the premier league, though sensibly, it wasn't to be.

Janoi may never be called a legend and he wont ever have a statue with us, but one thing he will have is unconditional respect from many of us is fans. He stayed and helped ITFC reach the top as a professional, while those who said he wasn't good enough are either in the lower leagues or sitting on their ass as an undesirable manager. He was with us during our worst, dug in, and helped restore us to our best.

Janoi may not have been the best, but he has by far earned his spot along side the most honourable and professional players in town's history. I hope he loves his time at Chesterfield, and even though his time was rightfully over at town - his departure certainly hit different.

A fair assessment. Well done.
Good luck to him at Chesterfield.

He will certainly be remembered positively for all his contributions and it’s nice Morsy gave him a shout publicly.

I'd add to that that he was written off early on by many fans, but he won virtually all of them around over time.

May be there's a lesson there that should be taken onboard for a couple of our current players...

Good luck Janoi.

More a cult hero than Town legend, for his attitude and personality rather than doing anythiing truly remarkable on the pitch. You know, those things that transcend sport and are important in life generally.

I’ll always remember him as a great defender, as well as for his personality.

Wishing him all the very best 👍

I think of him as The Bringer of Purpose and Direction to ITFC!

His one-on-one defending was excellent, but the thing I remember most about those early days of our revival was his overlapping runs around Burns right to the opponents six yard box, with excellent ball carrying, and the precision passes inside from there.

In my head, anyway, he represents the turning point from when we were a somewhat agricultural side of individuals just doing their best, to a structured and increasingly cultured team of footballers calmly and professionally executing a team plan.

Plus the bowing, of course!

That saga with work permits when he first came in, what a palava. Got to admit I was hoping he wouldn't the permit and would be shipped straight back.

How wrong was I.

Did a great job for us in the end.

Hurst did do well with him and KJ, albeit they were both slow burners and not up to the championship when first bought in.

I have to say, I think Hurst was on the money with those two, if it were for L1 at the time. He just clearly had zero clue about what Championship management was like and, let's face it, he was in good company with the board room in that respect. No one to mentor him, although he strikes me as the type who might not accept being mentored.

I’d been thinking how to reflect on his time at the club and really couldn’t have put it better.

When he got back into the team my son and I loved watching him. I think the season of our promotion from League One he was one of our best players, great one on one defender who was hardly ever beaten in that season. Think he was very underrated that season by lots of fans.

But most of all I just admire his dedication and true professionalism. And it appears he’s a decent guy too…hopefully we’ll get to see him back visiting Portman Road in the future.

I think he is a real model of what you can achieve if you keep persisting, learning and never giving up. When he finishes he will be able to say that he extracted every last ounce of his ability and his career. He was the best he could be in what is a very hard and sometimes cruel profession. He did it the right way too.

He proved under McKenna to be a better player than I certainly ever thought he could be. Like Jackson, he never stopped learning and both have played a part in what has been achieved since mid table league one Lambert and the motley crew. That can never be taken away from them.

He seems like a top bloke too and a real character. I can quite easily see him back at the club one day in some capacity. I hope so. People like him are gold dust. I hope it goes well at Chesterfield.

They’re lucky to have him.
