Everton talking to Chelsea about ending Broja loan 10:52 - Jan 16 with 2976 viewsGavTWTD

Moyes said: “We think he is going to be out for somewhere between 10-12 weeks. It’s his ligament, ankle. It would probably mean there is maybe a possibility, and it’s not done yet, there’s a possibility he would have to go back to Chelsea because it might use up, we might try to find a way because we can’t get loans up as well. Our loans are full.”

I still think he will be an Ipswich player at some point.

Never nice to see a player get injured but if it hampers Everton that can't be a bad thing. I'm sure Chelsea will be reluctant to end the deal though given he'll be no use to them or anyone else, depends on the terms of it I guess but normally all parties have to agree to terminate it early.

absolutely! If only because he didn't start playing until November...
To be fair, his injury was caused by quite a nasty challenge rather than inate weakness.

If you were Chelsea’s CEO then you might want to take advantage of the situation “Ok, we’ll take him back and off your wage bill. But in return, we have first dibs on Jarrad Branthwaite”.

Hopefully not.

However it does seem that, regardless of what happens over the rest of this window, that we’ll be looking to sign a striker again in the summer.

I imagine they'll have to pay in full for him regardless. More about freeing up a loan slot.

Yes, I keep thinking that. Perhaps not now, but maybe in the summer should we stay up. We were clearly prepared to invest a lot of money in to him, and given our track record of going back for players we don't always get the first time around, it wouldn't surprise me.

His injury record is woeful though, that’s why we hesitated in the summer & it’s only got worse this season.

I’d like to think we will have moved on from him.

I thought the issue in the summer was more that he wasn't going to be fit for a number of weeks, rather than an actual concern for his injury record? I suspect if he was only out for up to a month, we'd have pushed ahead with the deal.

Suspect if we could get a deal done, for a fraction of the price and his injury record does improve between now and the summer (albeit he's now out again for a number of weeks), it wouldn't surprise me if we did take another look.

Unfortunate for Broja and Everton, but highlights why medicals and due diligence are so important and I’m glad that we obviously have some very competent professionals in place and managed to avert this disaster befalling us, well done all👍

Yup - in the summer we thought we were signing a player who had just got over an ACL injury, had played in some preseason games and was going to be good to go.

The injury in preseason was still unknown at that point (when the story about us agreeing a deal was broken Phil commented on here that the club wanted it done in time to have him the squad the following Saturday). That injury took a while to recover from and he's then suffered a bad challenge injury. Neither of the latter two appear to be linked to the ACL recovery.

Hope Chelsea are as difficult with Everton as Man Utd were with us when we wanted to end Brandon Williams loan.
