I agree. These people (if the human species survives long enough to laud them) will be considered the Suffragettes of our generation. [Post edited 29 Jan 20:44]

She probably blocked a road and prevented ambulances getting to critically ill patients or cancer patients getting to their chemotherapy sessions. That is certainly not "doing the right thing" as you put it

Yeah, but self-interested individuals like her just inconvenience decent, honest, law abiding folk, going about their rightful business. They cause distress at flower shows, spoil snooker matches, stop people on minimum wage from feeding their family and kill people in ambulances….or something like that. We need one of Badger’s legendary friends with ‘very real concerns’ to clarify the horrors women like her cause with their ridiculous planet-saving scaremongering.

They're too busy blocking roads with tractors

B*ll*cks. I mean I was going to write a considered reply that engaged with your strawman point but b*ll*cks covers it.

Would you like it on your conscience if your actions caused a fatal road accident? They didn't in this case but only by luck, which is why these people were given lengthy jail sentences. They're not heroes, they're just a small group of loons and a public nuisance.

Couldn’t disagree more. Current transport policy is going to leave an uninhabitable world for our kids, let alone our grandkids. Legal means have made no progress. Peaceful protest needs to be supported and lead to urgent change or it will be eco-terrorism before long.

I'm all for protest, but in my opinion they go about it the wrong way. All their actions seem to do is cause grief for the general public trying to go about their everyday business. Yep you could argue we all leave a carbon footprint so we are all valid targets as polluters. But most people don't care enough to have their day disrupted is the reality of it. Target the offices of oil companies or motor car manufacturers or aircraft industry.

Protest doesn’t work if it’s not disruptive. They’ve tried all those things you suggested - lots of people are in prison as a result, and surprise surprise, it’s not the oil company executives or aircraft manufacturers. The chancellor was on TV on Tuesday telling us that aviation is now a seriously green alternative. It’s unreal. You can’t petition or letter-write your way out of this situation. I don’t agree with all of their tactics necessarily but they are doing something for a good cause at great personal cost to themselves, for a benefit most of them wouldn’t see in their own lifetimes even if successful. That’s pretty much the textbook definition of admirable commitment in my book.
