Attached is a piece on the impact of the French language on English after the 1066 Norman conquest. It’s quite long, but interesting. If anyone is in any doubt that language is a constantly changing, evolving thing, this will dispel it.

Oh and for the record, my surname arrived with the Norman invasion so you lot had better be polite, unless you fancy a ‘Harrying’ (William knew how to make friends).

Without coming across as a complete pendant the Norman didn’t speak French as such, but Norman a language closer to the Guernaisse patois spoken in the Channel Islands

I’m glad you are not a complete pendant. According to Wiki ‘A pendant is a loose-hanging piece of jewellery, generally attached by a small loop to a necklace, which may be known as a "pendant necklace". The word is Middle English derived from old French and Latin.

Now that’s pedantic! Sorry, couldn’t resist.

Actually language origins are very interesting in all their forms.
