Ignoring the goal, we have looked good. Starting to look like a team again.
Good teams don’t lose even when not playing well - see Birmingham game.
But performances over a season get you promoted. Leeds/Burnley drew 14+ games. If we play like this and keep improving - I suspect after the international break we will hit our stride, we are going to be absolutely fine.
We have players to come in. Bench looking stronger.
Need to start getting behind the Boys - seems a bit gloomy with the transfer window and first few games.

I'm not entirely convinced. We seem to be mostly in control but Preston seems tougher than we are, we hold the ball for way too long, need to release quicker and catch them out, not slow the game down. Could well be our bench will make the difference when the time comes. |  | | |

I think Preston are letting us have the ball. Knowing full well that we take ages to convert possession and chances to goals.
Personally think we've been quite poor. Look lifeless going forwards. Hirst isolated, Clarke jogging around weakly as usual. Johnson and Leif look OK. [Post edited 23 Aug 15:49]

Just acknowledging we look a better team than the first few games.Much better performance and we are very much controlling the game.
We will always look vulnerable defensively in this league to an extent because we are on the front foot so their attacks will likely be counter attacks.We will look far more out of control than we actually are. O’Shea and Greaves are very good.

We look toothless! We look vulnerable on the break and they have a low block that we seem unable to deal with. If we don't work out how to create/take chances it will be a long season.... remember we haven't scored yet from open play this season! |  |

Agreed - the bar is very low. But I think we appreciated it would take some time for us to get into our stride.
I expect Preston to tire / switch off in the second half as our quality makes the difference.
We will play many teams who will be up for it for the first 70 mins but I honestly think we are forgetting how good our team actually is. A bit like last season - when you play against quality, better opposition, they tire you out and mistakes eventually happen. I think it’s why we were so effective scoring late in L1 and the Championship last time round.

We've not been the same since Burns got injured. His runs behind, even though he didn't always get the ball, always had defenders worried.
I think Mati has been good.
Taylor needs to learn to pass with his left foot. There's also times where the pass he chooses isn't a 'kind' pass and makes his team mate work harder than they should to control it.

Don’t think that’s a bad performance l. Shouldn’t be 1-0 down but you can’t be in the deck and move legs towards a player, more an instinctive thing so a bit of leeway to Greaves who’s otherwise been good.
Philogene really does look bright when we get the ball to him, Taylor’s best half I’ve seen for a while against a compact Preston team.
Downsides is really Szmodics not really getting a foothold in there, without doing much wrong. Clarke was woeful to start with but got slightly better, just needs a bit of ‘bottle’ imo and throw your head at a boot type attitude.
Not a lot wrong there in terms of something to build from. Disappointed not to get some shots off sooner.
