Do we still get James? And what do we do about homegrown? 09:06 - Aug 29 with 1068 viewsJrm_72

Do you think we still get Jordan James? That would be a really rather spiffing midfield quartet if so.

But it does leave abit of a puzzle on the homegrown thing? I'm not sure on the rule but its either 1 or 2 in either the matchday 20 or the named squad right? I thought it's 2 in the 20 but others have said different on here and I'm no expert.

If we get James, the likely 25 leaves out all the obvious candidates to fulfill the homegrown requirement:

Wolfy - seemingly wants to leave so can't see us making him stay
Humphreys - loan
Baggott - loan
H Clarke (not sure if counts) - loan, leaves, not registered

Am I missing anyone? We could keep Barbook in the squad as wouldn't count towards 25, but then would we need to name him in matchday 20 in order to satisfy it? Bit of a waste of a sub if so. Could've done with a youth keeper being ready for the bench really, as that would tick viable sub (though unlikely to be used), homegrown, and not counting towards 25.

Just not sure how we make it work? I'm not saying this will be the reason we don't get James, that will be something more immediate like budget or KMC doesnt feel we need him, but was just something I couldn't get my head round at moment.

I think we've told Woolfenden he's staying, hence the cryptic Instagram post earlier in the week.

Do we include Barbrook, who won't be included in squad numbers due to his age?

I can see Humphreys staying as part cover for Leif, especially with this new inverted role he's playing, Cam could be decent enough cover for that.

"In the EFL, a homegrown player is any player of any nationality who has been registered with a club affiliated to The Football Association (FA) or the Football Association of Wales (FAW) for three full seasons (or 36 months) before their 21st birthday"

A club, not The club

Furlong - Homegrown
Davis - Homegrown
Chappers - Homegrown

etc etc.

The homegrown rule isn't about bringing youth players through, its about a balance of English or Welsh players in the squad.

All goal keepers, even those under 21, are counted in the 25 player squad. So having a young keeper as this keeper wouldn’t help.

And I think the OP is doing Finley a bit of disrespect saying he would be a waste of a space in the matchday squad and also on the bench. The lad seems to be coming on very well and sometimes a quarter of an hour at the end of a game to get used to playing in front of twenty or thirty thousand is just what is needed to round off the development stage of a player's progression.

I thought the rule was you have to name one homegrown in the match day squad and if you dont you have one less on the bench?

But i could be wrong

I don't thing you mean 'Home Grown', which is 8 on the matchday sheet.

You probably mean 'Club Developed', which is 1, but optional. If you don't have one, then the bench is reduced from 9 to 8.

I guess the question is is he seen as an upgrade on Taylor at this point (probably not) and what happens if he picks up and injury or suspension? Then we'd have to drop to eight.

Whereas with Humphreys or Woolfenden, it wouldn't matter when it comes to sub numbers. As they're part of the 25 we can keep naming Nunez even if they're not one of them.

Not sure about that.

Can recall Brizzle only naming one goalkeeper in their 25 as their first choice was under 21 and didn’t need naming.

This...

A club developed player is any player who was at the club for 'at least 12 months prior to the end of his Under 19 season'; basically, anyone who was signed to the club for at least a year as a teenager (even if they were out on loan).

The crux of this is about the rule about club developed players rather than than home grown. It’s 2 different things

Yes the correct rule is all goalkeepers over 21 are included, whereas outfield players who were 21 or younger in January don’t count (so could be 22)

Not meant as disrespect, really rate Finley. Just meant if he is 5th on the depth chart at moment (Behind azor, jens, nunez and james), its a waste of a spot on the subs bench if it means you cant name one or both of the guys above him on it. We wouldnt have 3 DM's on bench.

Jumping him from 5th to 3rd to satisfy a rule seems silly, was my point.

Thanks to other responses. Still seems clear as muck but I'm sure the club will figure it out!
