Derby is massive for Clarke and Philogene 03:45 - Aug 30 with 1677 viewscharlie1

By the end of the international break it is likely that Azon, Akpom, McAteer, Egeli will all be fit enough to start if they aren't already.

I get the impression that the pace, power and physicality of these new recruits, together with the like of Smodics, Chappers, Burns and Ogbene will see the slighter, more technical Clarke and Philogene used less and less.

I appreciate you need different players for different games and opponents but can't see Clarke and Philogene remaining starters for much longer on current form.

Not sure I’d put Philogene in the same bracket as Clake here.

I was tempted to make the distinction that Philogene has shown a desire to work hard, track back etc. that Clarke hasn't.

Of the two i think he offers more, but I still don't think he'll start for too much longer. Excellent option from the bench though.

I just don't think Clarke is the right fit for Town.

Judging by his body language and faces over the last few games, Clarke doesn't strike me as the type that will fight too much for his spot. Or that he knows how in any other way than what we've seen so far. Time will tell. To each his own. Options are a plenty

I still hope that Clarke will turn into the player he once was with Sunderland. At odd times he looks the part and can breeze past players at will, at others he looks like he will trip over a Baby Bel wrapper.

The competition for starting is now intense - Town have a stronger overall squad now than any time in our history. So the pressure is on all players to earn the right to start. I think Philogene has shown already that he is willing to work hard, but Clarke has just not been effective. Whether it's bad luck, whether he is being told to play in that way or whether he just isn't quite on form I don't know, but as you say, this match v Derby is crucial for him especially. Anyone who doesn't shine might not even make the subs bench next time out.

He doesn’t look happy does he? I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes. Or maybe that how he always looks, hard to tell.

Jaden has been one of our better players in the past three games. I don’t see his place being in danger from any of the players you have listed. I would imagine that now we have options on the right that Clarke will move to being Jaden’s replacement on 70 minutes.

Akpon will be challenging Szmodics for the 10 spot, Azon is Hirst’s back up, McAteer will share time on the right with Ogbene and Egelinwill be that wild card to come on with a free role towards the end of games.

The two player you have mentioned who I think are in danger of being moved on are Burns and Chaplin. Wouldn’t surprise me to see burns de registered until January and Chaplin end up at Portsmouth, either on loan or a permanent deal.

Both Philogene and Clarke can have huge roles to play, especially later in games.

Pretty much every player was poor last week. But he tried to make things happen, had a good pre season before being injured, played well against Southampton and has built up a good relationship with Davis.

If he is dropped it would be for Clarke. They are our left sided options. Certainly not the players mentioned by the op,

Philogene has looked sharper and leagues more promising. For the money paid, they should both be outrageous in this league.

Clarke looks relieved to be subbed most games. McKenna probably needs to rest him for a period. Not sure his head is in it.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

They won't both start in the same game, as they are our options for playing the role on the left side of three. Philogene will mainly start, with Clarke coming on when McKenna makes his complete change of the front 4 between the 60th & 70th minutes.
McAteer, Egeli & Ogbene will be the options on the right side, with Szmodics, Akpom & Chaplin the 3 to play in the centre #10 role. Now within that we have players who are adaptable & can play across the line & up front as a striker, depending on the needs of a particular game. McKenna wants 2 quality options for each position - starters & finishers - & then an extra 2 for the 3 attacking positions behind the centre forward (i.e. 8) in order to cope with injuries & suspensions.
Of all those mentioned above, I feel that Ogbene might be the most likely move, as we have spent nearly £30m (incl add ons) on 2 new players for his spot & Wes Burns will be back to challenge too, certainly after Christmas. Ogbene was seen at a Celtic match recently & they have been interested in him before.
I think Philogene will do really well for us once the side is settled, but Clarke is a bit of a mystery. He had a tough time adapting to the PL & the change of role that McKenna had for him. Having said that, I thought he had really improved in the second half of the season & was looking a real threat, not to mention his ball carrying to relieve pressure on the defence. In our cup game v a good Coventry team, he was MOTM & looked his old self, really comfortable on the ball. I was looking forward to seeing him rip up the Championship like he did at Sunderland, & then be much better prepared for another crack at the PL next season, if we got back up.
But his performances (mainly on the right tbf) have been noticeably poor & he does carry himself with the gait & facial expressions of someone who is not happy.

I wonder if he really regrets the move. He'd be in Sunderland's squad right now in the Premier. I've no idea if he'd get a game mind, with their recruitment.

I don't understand why Philogene and Clarke have been switched.I think the former is better on the right, the latter on the left.

Innit. Spoken about like some sort of double headed beast but Philogene will fly this season, mark my words.
