That's a real shame as he was relatively young.

That first Stone Roses album was certainly a classic, and in my view, unlike the music of the other famous Manchester indie bands, has stood the test of time.

Ah, that’s a shame. The Stone Roses defined the end of the 80s for me (much needed after all the pop trash of that decade). Happy times.

At the risk of sounding overly facetious, how the hell have Shaun and Ben managed to outlive him?

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

ah, gutted. my favourite band of my youth.

was lucky enough to meet the roses, and he was a gem, really friendly, full of bounce, total gent.

musically, the combination of him and reni was fabulous and his work with primal scream circa vanishing point elevated them too

RIP

Tragic.

I remember that song featuring in a televised enactment of the Easter story that took place in the streets of Manchester about 20 years ago.

The following article described it as bizarre but I thought it was pretty good.

A superb album. They may not have produced much, but they certainly burned brightly for a while.

Primal Scream were excellent too.

Gutted. Absolutely sh^t hot bassist, did what he did in the Roses then joined Primal Scream who then made Vanishing Point and completely revitalized the band with a run of banging albums.

Not a couple of his most well-known tunes but highlight just how good he was

This into Resurrection is the greatest ending to any album I've ever heard.

And the 1-2 punch of I Wanna Be Adored into She Bangs the Drums is one of the best openings - and where Mani really shines. When that bass comes in over the top of the industrial noise at the start of the album...I swear my blood pressure drops by 25% in an instant.

What's worse is his wife died two years ago from bowel cancer and they have twin boys aged 15 who now have lost both parents at such a young age.
