From a man-management point of view, the gloves have to be Walton's to lose.
Given how other players have come in and stayed (Kipre and Hladky spring to mind) I can't imagine that McKenna would do anything other than keep him between the sticks. |  |

Walton has been great recently. Two worldy saves against Cov and otherwise really solid, decent with the ball at his feet too.

IIRC, Walton lost his spot to Hladky due to injury, and Hladky's performance earned him the #1 shirt. If KMK then says to Walton, "Sorry, new rules, Palmer's in," then I would expect Walton to hand in a transfer request.
