But when did Muhren join? I thought it was early 80s - a little before my time.

I had no idea it was that long ago..would he have started in the FA cup final if he’d been with us a few months earlier and in place of who?

Probably Roger Osborne, but maybe better not to consider that sliding doors moment.

Indeed, I was thinking he being the most likely candidate.. therefore robbing me of a very strong and important image and overall feeling in my memory bank of watching from my bedroom window all and sundry working feverishly but happily decorating his house with blue and white balloons in preparation for his triumphant return. Was that televised? I guess it must have been Match of the Day highlights. This site suggests it was v Arsenal https://pasoti.co.uk/threads/p but the Cup Final can't be right. As well as Muhren playing, the pitch isn't that great and Mariner is being spoken of as man of the match.

I went with City as we were wearing white shirts and black shorts (as much as you can make out on a B&W telly). The stand behind the goal looked like it was all-seater which I think Maine Road had at that time and the opposition number 5 looked like Dave Watson to me. I went for the Nov 78 game as it looked on the dark side (though televised and likely a Sat afternoon), the 79-80 away game at City was in May and therefore after transmission date and Woods had gone by then. I could be wrong though! Edit: Televised as in MOTD in the evening. [Post edited 26 Mar 1:22]

Spurs and Forest in’83 the modern era … but there’s more .. apparently they did have quite a few before from 1960 and in one case Pay per view which really surprised me … but only if you lived in Westminster!?

Deffo Spurs v Forest. It was around 1983 on ITV and the beeb responded by showing live matches on a Friday night. Most games featured one of Liverpool or Man Utd but I do recall a Division Two game being chosen (Chelsea v Man City).
