Beyond shocking that. If VAR wasn't there he probably gives that as a goal anyway so actually VAR has made no difference here it is the officiating.

VAR should be outright disallowing it and not even giving the ref the decision.

Don't think it can. If Mbeumo put it in they can as it was a handball immediately before the goal. It's factual. As Cunha scores it then becomes subjective if it was accidental or not. However they got to the decision it is wrong and they need to look at it again and either give VAR greater input, which they don't want to do, or educate the Ref.

Why don't we just do away with refs and let two blokes in a portacabin at Stockley Park run the match. Sounds ridiculous, but that's what you are suggesting.

VAR is supposed to be there to ensure the correct decision happens. It doesn’t. Wrong decisions are still continually given to protect the big clubs.

Why would they want to protect Manchester United today? This game doesn't matter. Whatever happens they're 99% certain to.finish third.

This wasn't really the wrong decision though, for the reasons I've described. Yes, its absolutely ridiculous, yes its a really stupid interpretation of the rules, yes it needs to be cleared up. But the correct decision did happen, because the ref went against VAR. If he goes with it, there would be controversy the other way around, as you say, not as extensive but it would still be there.

Funnily enough i think had he not given it, no one would have mentioned it again lol. I think 99.9% of people watching those replays expected that to be chalked off

Yep, and I completely get that. But Sky/MotD would have analysed the fk out of it and created the controversy. Its definitely what Sky live for. Edit: They'll now make a controversy out of this and say how the rule is stupid, goes against the game, the ref should have ruled it out, even though he applied the law correctly etc etc etc. Its apparently 'good telly' [Post edited 17 May 14:23]

Because they’re Man U. There’s no way that goal would have stood at the other end of the pitch.
