If you worried about O'Neill being uninspiring (which I'm not btw), this guy makes him look like Jim Carrey.

The responsibility of delivering for Scotland is probably something the English don't understand.
It goes way beyond football and into the darkest corners of our proud history and heritage.

Niche idea for a comedy account for an Ipswich Town board but I'm interested to see where this goes.

You're questioning the extent of responsibility on Clarke's shoulders?

If comedy was the aim, DeflowerOfScotland would have been a better choice. I suspect his confrontational arrogant posting style will seem him banned soon anyway.

I was surprised in the build up yesterday that people seemed to be suggesting they had a realistic chance of a result. A relatively poor squad with only a couple of good players at this level against a Brazil team wanting to win.

Predictably they were then dire in every respect.

Given the circumstances, why didn't they go the Ghana route of a low block? They seemed so open.

Agree although presumably they weighed it up and concluded that they don’t have the players for that either.

Weird wasn't it.

I don't understand why they didn't accept who and what they are at this level and try to shithouse their way to a draw or narrow defeat. Losing by 3 or more was the 1 outcome they needed to avoid, yet they tried to go toe to toe at times which was odd. Its not like they're capable of creating meaningful chances at the best of times, why tackle Brazil like that?

Maybe they underestimated Brazil, as daft as that sounds?

At the end, i thought they were all being a bit over gloomy on Scotland's 3rd place chances, but I was banking on the Czechs staying in third. Looks like the commentators were right about the 3rd going in.

The TV coverage of Scotland is bizarre.

The idea that they would be hailed history makers and heroes if they scraped a win v Haiti, and two narrow defeats against Morocco and Brazil.....

I think the disappointment will be in not playing to their full potential. Off the field they have been a triumph and it probably hurts the manager as much that the tournament will be losing it's most interesting fanbase due to poor displays on the field of play.
Nobody can deny that as a nation we punch well above our weight.

It's different by being exactly the same. Every nation thinks similarly of their difference. Was that not the point?

Need 4 of the remaining 9 groups to go their way.

D - Realistically need Australia to beat Paraguay by 2 (or Paraguay by 4) - Possible
E - Ivory Coast and Germany not to lose to Curacao and Ecuador - Highly likely
F - Need Japan to beat Sweden by 4 - Highly unlikely
G - Need Egypt to beat Iran - Likely
H - Need Spain to beat Uruguay - Likely
I - Need Senegal not to beat Iraq - Unlikely
J - Need Austria to beat Algeria by 2 - Possible
K - Need DR Congo not to beat Uzbekistan - Unlikely
L - Need Ghana to beat Croatia by 3 - Highly unlikely

Probably out but would only take 3 likely things and 1 unlikely thing to make the next round.

Punch above your weight? All I hear is how Celtic and Rangers would walk the PL.

The Norwegians who have a similar population as Scotland, their two biggest clubs (Rosenborg and Molde) have stadiums that hold 21k and 11k respectively.

The attendances Celtic and Rangers get dwarf those, even Hearts, Hibs and Aberdeen hold more.

Don't know where this punching above weight comes from.

Good list, although I heard them say on the telly box that a draw would see Austria and Algeria through. An old school agreed draw might be on the cards thanks to the 3rd place thing.

I doubt that would have made much difference. They’d still have had to defend and not take all week dawdling on the ball. Ghana may well have a better defence (based on what we saw last night!).

yes, puts them both on 4 points. As it stands the "prize" for finishing 2nd is playing Spain rather than Switzerland, so who knows what those two will cook up.

A draw would also likely put Australia and Paraguay through (although I don't think that would be confirmed whilst they're playing).
