All I’d say is it’s a very small token after knocking several more nails in the coffin left by the tories. I can apply and easily get a late license to show the football if I want. It doesn’t really help but can be seen by those not in the industry as ‘helping pubs’. Similar to the regular budgets when the ‘penny off a pint’ is cheered in the HoC - a benefit that is gobbled up by the breweries and makes the headlines rather than all the stealth taxes that really hit the bottom line.

its absolutely a performative token, than a meaningful one. people might blame disorganised pubs, but how disorganised are the government when they didnt spot it before either, something the National Police Chiefs' Council have noted too. instead they announced something in the commons saying it wouldnt, only to be followed up by some rubbish tiktok style video announcing a complete change. (even the Star who published an article on it just this morning, are still quoting the government position yesterday morning as the "new" rules) even then its not worth it for most pubs since staffing costs and shift covering would throw them out of sorts for the rest of the week and theyd have to deal with the inevitable noise complaints, somehow I suspect local councils wont simply ignore that. I can only presume the government are desperate to boost economic figures as the DR Congo game alone generated 274% increase in sales compared to normal trade according to card providers (so not even including cash sales)
