I imagine the effort, adrenaline and travel in Mexico has taken its toll.
32+ degrees and humid tonight isn't going to help.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

Yep an extra 30 minutes is going to make this game look like a football version of the Monty python black knight sketch

He's either deadly or absolutely pedestrian. Doesn't control games, but takes very good advantage of games that suit him. Whatever the love in, it's sometimes like playing with 10 men. To be fair, big Erling is the same.

edit: To be clear, I think Kane is a very good player in many or most games, but he leaves quite a bit of a hole up there sometimes.

There were a couple of crosses where normally he would be right in there ghosting between the centre backs / gambling on the cross but he was back by the penalty spot today. Hopefully got it back in the tank for Switzerland!

Imagine criticising arguably England's best ever player, let alone striker, deep into a World Cup tournament where the temperatures are high and the intensity of the games impressive, and where he's played nearly every minute. Yep shape up Harry you're not putting the effort in son!

I'm not convinced it was a criticism as much as an observation, although could also have been levelled at most of the team. Many of them looked spent relatively early in the match.

However, kudos to them on getting through against a tough Norway team when they clearly weren't at 100%. Hopefully they can get lots of rest and recuperation before Wednesday.

Thats tournament football, some players will have a poor game when you're playing 4 or 5 games over 3-4 weeks, Messi didn't have a great game either.
Look at Gordon, some people wrote him off after the first game, but created both goals against Congo and had a brilliant game against Mexico caused them lots of problems with his constant running especially after we went down to 10 men.

I don't think it's unfair to say that Harry Kane wasn't at his best last night. He's been excellent in other games but it looked like the heat got to him last night.

Kane is one of the best players in the world when we are in possession. When we are out of possession however, he is one of the worst. When we were 10 men against Mexico, we were effectively 9 men due to Kane's lack of movement. Tuchel's genius of bringing Rogers on for Kane and playing him as an 8 with Bellingham just ahead of him is one of the reasons we're still in the World Cup. Don't sweat it though. Haarland and Lukaku are exactly the same. When Kane's helping defend set pieces, I'd love to see someone like Saka left up top to occupy the centre-backs. I'd love to see Jack Clarke perform a similar task for us.

I think several were suffering. I went to Great Universal a few years ago. It was an overcast day but the humidity was horrendous. Just walking a few steps and the sweat ran off you.
It does seem like a mad idea to have tournaments such as these in mid summer.
Some areas of the States such as Arizona people have to go from an air conditioned home to an air conditioned car to an air conditioned work building and cannot even go in a swimming pool if they have one.
As Tucal said "England were lucky" On the break away if the forward and passed to Harlaand an almost certain second goal and although Norway's first goal was a fluke they hit the bar as well. Of course you take it. But we will need to be better against the Argies

Naturally given his age, he started tournament very sharp but has got slower as we progress. Only three days to recover between games and the heat humidity affecting him. Perhaps he could come on fresh after 60 mins as impact sub and in case penalties later in game. His penalty taking prowess may however mean he will play from the start...
Hopefully he won't be flogged to death as in Croatia match in 2018 when he was jogging about totally exhausted..

Seems to be able to just pick and choose what position he plays, which must be nice…

Few times late on he was dropping into a more defensive midfield position to link up play with no one occupying their cebtre halfs. None of this is new and Kane has played that way for years to great effect so it clearly work, but as a soectator can be a bit fruatrating at times.

Biggest observation/frustration i had from last night was how much he was belly aching and moaning. His mouth did more running than his legs

And of course this world cup has an additional match compared with previous tournaments. So the next match would be the final, with one more heave required. But as it is, we have (hopefully) two more matches. The physical demands are enormous, and unlike in 1994 when the telly really showed the heat because the sunlight on the pitch, it's less obvious this time round, but the heat last night was extremely high.

Kane has been immense, and somehow Bellingham has been immenser. We have a genuine chance of winning the world cup without too many more world class players (or at least elite internationals putting in world class performances).

Naturally, as Tuchel animatedly points out, the effort and mentality has not been lacking at all. Part of that is the individuals (Bellingham is intense, and not giggly, but any accusation of laziness is either sinister or just plain wrong-headed), part of it is the togetherness that Tuchel has curated (with his squad selection) and fostered, and part of it is surely Tuchel's motivational approach. A guy that intense cannot but inspire, it seems to me. Easy to say all that while we're winning, but it does all seem to be going very well. We're down to fine margins now, or else someone like the French going up to 7th gear.

We have two games now win or lose unless the needless third placed match has been removed.

Tuchel has done well to continue Southgate’s transformation of the men’s teams fortunes. I do think we got away with one last night though, however we are now playing a team who keep getting away with one.

It’s a fascinating semi final in store.

Kane and Bellingham have both been extraordinary. Hats off also last night to Djed Soence.

I was going to state this to, but add his age with the heat and humidity will effect him more than the younger players to.
I work outside in this Florida weather 5 days a week and can assure you Thursday, Friday and Saturday has been the most nasty weather this year. I live here and I’m more use to it than the players and it has been brutal

It looked like a tactical change last night, for Kane drop into the no 10 position, and the far younger Bellingham to do more of the running.

I can tell you this, not as a boast but as a fact. I've spent some time in a tropical climate. Temps in the 30's by day many days and sometimes no lower than high 20's at night and never below24c, add to that very high levels of humidity that we just don't see here, even with the weather we've been having. I don't even want to walk for more than 10/15 minutes in that.

Every single player from both sides deserve enormous credit for putting on a football match of any kind and over 120 minutes it must have been beyond punishing, however fit they are.

The organisers knew there was going to be a match in that stadium for a very important quarter final in the hottest and most humid part of a Floridian summer, and it's a stadium with no roof or of course, thus, no a/c. Simply idiotic planning. Why it doesn't have a roof and no a/c beggars belief. Being so, it should have been played elsewhere. I give great kudos to everyone involved in it for actually giving us a game to watch! That is probably the greatest reason why HK ( and others ) struggled.
