Moat new signings in most teams earn their place after starting on the bench but I have never known a team slate the manager for it. Oxlade Chamberlain start sub yesterday for Liverpool and they lost #kloppout Celina was signed by Mick. It wasn't a mistake and mock was expecting a hairy arsed 32 year old midfielder. Mick knew what he was signing in the same way he did with frazer and Lawrence. Mick played them both whenever he could and he will with celina.

Berdant Celina on 13:40 - Sep 10 with 2195 views | No9 | The discussion on RS yesterday was informative. The talk was of MM not liking BC for some reason - had he done something wrong on the training park etc. etc. The impression given was that the broadcasters don't give BC much chance of being a regular starter.

Why was the talk on RS informative? Did the people saying there was "something wrong" have inside information or was it random callers making things up?

Seeing a lot of that chat on here but it's based on nothing bar people's woolly preconceptions.

It came up in the pre-match interview. Celina is clearly a player who isnt in the MM mould, principally because he doesnt appear to be defensive minded at all and gave the ball away in defensive positions v Palace (and once v Fulham) when he attempted to overplay. MM seemed quite defensive about that suggestion, saying that they seemed to suggest there was something wrong with him, but to say that hes been very happy with his workrate, that hes doing both sides of the game well. He acknowledged that there were a couple of times v Palace which he said he needed to learn from, or something. If Celina shows himself to be just too much of an attacking talent to ignore, then MM will presumably play him, but MM has been pretty vocal throughout about the need for players to "put a shift in" and to track back defensively, whilst hes an advocate of not taking chances defensively. Whatever MM says publicly, the question seemed pretty valid . | | | | Login to get fewer ads

So from the horse's mouth, there isn't something wrong!

Both Brenner Woolley and Mick Mills were saying last week that he was the most un-McCarthy style player that he had signed. He gave the ball away on the edge of our box 2 or 3 times v Palace, when he attempted to play out from the back, then did the same v Fulham with pretty much his first touch of the game. I thought the question was pretty reasonable in the press conference. Even MM acknowledged the issues v Palace. The suggestion that he has an "issue" with Celina or has "fallen out with him" is something else entirely though.

Exactly. Having a style of play that may not seem to suit the manager (and MM signed him, so of course will be aware of his strengths/weaknesses) is one thing, but suggesting that somehow he has an attitude problem, or MM has an issue with him, is quite different. And seemingly has no basis.

I think some of the anti-Mick mob have put two and two together and got 5. He's not featured much and he's a flair player = Mick hates him/he should go back to Man City. They conveniently forget he's been ill/injured and Mick has praised his attitude.

It was Mick Mills & Brenner Wooley, no callers involved in the discussion.
