Just watched the veteran journalist Harold Evans on the Andrew Marr show. He said "Sentimental tears are not enough. Let us remember the dead, but let us also remember why they died: crude nationalism." Wise words...we seem to have forgotten that the overriding sentiment of Remembrance Day used to be “Never Again.”
And let's not forget that the world's self-appointed top nationalist wouldn't go out in the rain to lay a wreath in a US cemetery yesterday.
The Us embassy have just doubled down on the ignorance on display.
D-Day #Armistice At the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, the Great War ended. In the streets, thousands of anonymous gathered to celebrate the announcement of the Armistice.#Armistice100pic.twitter.com/oz4hBrFepg
Make no mistake the greatest disrespect to our veterans doesn't come from the size of the poppy warn on the lapel but by those who enable arms to be sold into war zones not for our protection but for the greed of the 1%. #JeremyCorbyn#RemembranceDay2018
The best way to honour those killed in war is to stop fighting unnecessary wars. Let's hear the government announce an end today to the weapons and diplomatic and logistic support it contributes to Saudi Arabia's war in #Yemen. #RemembranceDay2018

One persons unnecessary war is anothers freedom fight......good luck determining which is which....
In terms of British troops this is quite an easy one to answer...
Unnecessary wars are mainly ones that occur on the soil, sea and in the air over foreign lands.
A freedom fight is where a sovereign nation requests assistance in the face of an invader; i.e. Kuwait
We should steer clear of any type of civil war as the ramifications are way too complex to contemplate and usually happen in really messed up countries where this weeks allies are likely to shoot you next week.
Daft question time...that trumpet music the military people play before each game. What is it? I assume it has some sort of war connection but i've never know what?
