Yay for the wage budget!

And Lambert....for all of his qualities.....is not the best manager in the league.

Without the budget you don’t get the best players (as a rule anyway)

We don’t have the best striker or manager.

I’ll allow the rest

It ain't Joey.

I think you will find our striker was the top scorer in all 4 leagues last year.
Followed by 20+ goals for the previous 5 seasons.
No striker in this league can rival that!

Yes he is not top scorer off the league atm, but we have a long way to go still.

Who is better than Lambert? Erm many of them, they just don't have equal resources

Toney is miles better than any of our forwards

Ivan Toney plays for Peterborough.

Toney last season stats

44 games and 14 goals... looks like he is having a season off his life to me.

Form is temporary and class is permanent #norwood

You really think Norwood is the best striker in the division?

Not sure that he is the best striker at Ipswich although he might be if he took a higher percentage of his chances.

Football is way more than stats. It takes about 2 minutes of watching Toney to see he is miles ahead

I always thought strikers were judged on goals.

In that case Jackson is our best striker and therefore the best striker in the division.

Scoring 20 + goals for a number of seasons at a lower level of football doesn’t make him the best striker in the league.
Hopefully he’ll shake off this groin problem and prove he is though.

what makes you think we have the best squad in the league? i dont get that theory its a squad that mainly took us down with our worse ever season in our history pretty much! that is what brenner wolley keeps saying on radio suffolk about how great our bench is... the likes of kenlock keane judgen nsiala edwards etc are i am yet to see it myself.

The best manager is a hard one.. you might have a manager like Lambert/Ferguson with a good budget at his disposal who SHOULD do well or a manager with peanuts to spend and the objective is too stay in the league. They need to be on a level playing field to make the call IMO.
Personally I don’t think Pl is tactically good enough to say he’s the best though.

1. Indisputable fact.
2. Indisputable fact (although the point are always preferable to games in hand)
3. Disputable but probably only Sunderland's is likely to match it. Bigger problem is if we find we are relying on one or two players and they don't stay fit and on form.
4. Definitely disputable. However, we have one of the best strike forces in this league once Sears, Norwood and Keane are all fully fit. I would love to see something of Folami and Morris this season too.
5. Highly debatable as discussed above.
6. On paper maybe but we need partnerships and systems that work. From what I have seen in the last 2 matches, the midfield's inability to dominate has been a major part of the problem.
7. Downes is a belief but one many of us share. He has been phenomenal this season. We need him fit and playing.
8. Indisputable fact (but not something that wins anything south of the Waveney).
9. Also true but could be a burden as Barton pointed out.
10. True, although it is no guarantee of success - if it was we would have been back in the Premier League when he was one of the richest in the Championship.

Overall there are far more positives than negatives.

I always thought strikers were judged on goals.

That would mean Grant Holt was a better striker than Paul Mariner, which is obviously bobbins.

And much of what’s wrong with how players and matches, etc., are judged today. Stats are only an aid not the whole picture; they still need expertise to draw meaning from them.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?
