Ben Godfrey - from The Athletic 16:06 - Dec 9 with 1459 views | itfcjoe | Norwich would want £50 million for Godfrey Ben Godfrey’s performances for Norwich are not going unnoticed by a number of Europe’s top sides. Borussia Dortmund and Lyon, two clubs who like tapping into the English market, have made checks on the 21-year-old centre-back, while Tottenham and Arsenal are also keeping an eye on his progress this season. But The Athletic understands that Godfrey is rated so highly by Norwich that they would want around £50 million from any buying club. That valuation is gauged by Harry Maguire costing Manchester United £85 million and Adam Webster, who had only played Championship football, joining Brighton for £20 million from Bristol City. Godfrey is captain of England under-21s and expected to make the step up to the seniors at some stage, while club sources believe he has many of the attributes required to become an elite defender, including exceptional speed and temperament.

It's not that unlikely to happen though. Basically an extra year's parachute payment for them when it does.

A lot of that was down to Matt Gill I think too.

They’ve bought well though as the likes or Aarons and Lewis were bought from (I think Luton?) when they were 16 so weren’t actually academy graduates as such... same as Maddison who they bought from Cov The likes of Cantwell and Godfrey however have been real success stories for them

A lot of them were signings, he was signed from York at 17-18 having already played for their 1st team. The key is to have a style of play that allows young players to flourish, look at the difference between Adam Webster here, where he became a good defender who could play, to one at Bristol City who was set up to be the main man of their team at the back, to get them playing. We need to play a style of football like we did in the first half on Saturday, that shows of your best players, shows that they can play in better teams who all play like that. I've been to a couple of big games this season (Liverpool - Arsenal and Spurs - Bayern) and the thing you notice is that at that level you can count on the fingers of one hand how many aimless balls there are played. It is pass, pass, pass - all agme. Every player has to be comfortable in tight situations as getting rid just isn't an option. Admittedly that is at the extreme level, but we need to try and play more like that, we really did on Saturday with the CBs taking the ball in the box off the keeper and working it out from there

Wasn't at the game Saturday (just seen the highlights), but frustrating we can't carry a performance like the first half for 90 minutes. Even 60-75 odd minutes and putting teams to the sword and we'd be looking a lot healthier now in that we aren't questioning the manager and his policy.
