I didn't see that coming. That's a massive boost for him. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-51035448

Unison are very moderate, so not really a surprise.

Still, it looks like it will be KS.

He's been groomed for this role for a while now - and unlike the last chap, his brother won't be stepping in to ruin it for him

Pretty much guaranteed to be the next PM once 'Workington man' realises just how badly he has screwed himself

I'm really not sure about that. Labour has been losing votes in "traditional" seats for decades, and I think Brexit just tipped them over. Assuming KS goes more Blairite, that might not be the answer.

Not surprising in the slightest. Dave Prentice and Unison are moderate. Unite backing him would be a shock though.

That was quick how did they get all the members UNISON to vote that quickly, it normally takes weeks to organise a ballet.

Labour getting Wokington man wont guarantee a Labour government.

If Labour were to win back every seat that they lost to the Tories at the last election we are only back to where we were last month. A minority Tory government.

Labour have to win back all of the seats they lost last month whilst gaining at least thirty odd more seats from the Tories just to have a decent majority.

Taking your post at face value and ignoring captain subtext, it was a committee decision.

Not a shock.

Now if Supreme Leader McCluskey did, now that’s a story.

I hope Starmer gets it as that is the only hope of getting the Tories out. RLB is a guarantee of 10 more years of Tory rule

Unison are the biggest public sector union out there. Plenty of sensible nurses, care workers, social workers...

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Rumours going about that Red Len is nine too impressed by RLB’s dithering and has approached Barry Gardiner to stand.

That would pretty much give the contest to Starmer. Although Lisa Nandy has impressed her colleagues.
