Just passed my ambulance driving test. 11:07 - Mar 26 with 2855 viewsPecker

I say ambulance, it is a mini bus with ambulance stickers on it. I have volunteered to drive patients to and from hospital. Had my assessment today and start on Monday. Got to admit, I am doing it as much for myself as helping at the same time. Bored senseless at home, so thought I would sign up. Just driving, no contact with patients, so should be all good.

Applied for same yesterday, in paid furlough and would rather be doing something worthwhile.

Only problem is I've just sent my licence off for points...

Superb

"it is a mini bus with ambulance stickers on it" do you have to wind down the window and make the 'nee naw' noises yourself?

He should be given an actual blue light & 4 extremely large stickers (including one for the roof), saying "ITFC - Pride of East Anglia" to make it a *proper* Blues & twos!

Well done and good luck.

Infuriatingly I'm diabetic,, therefore 'at risk' and so can't do any of the jobs bar speaking to isolated people on the 'phone. And I'd be truly dreadful at that.

You've done something useful in passing the idea on to me tho, I think I could be OK in that role.

I'd probably lose patience if people were starting to get self-pitying, albeit understandably.

I've applied for a driving role anyway, just to see if I'm OK. I can't see the problem if I'm delivering stuff between NHS premises.

They called it an ambulance. I shall be taking patients to and from hospital. No 999 calls. 8 seats and 4 wheel chair places with a ramp. Basically a taxi.

When I did my 'sick patient transfer' training Several Years Ago, it really opened my eyes to hw dangerous moving the very sick any kind of distance can be.
Fast forward a few days and we have a specialist team in to transfer someone desperately sick to A Specialist Unit. Transfer team consisted of a senior nurse, paramedic and senior intensivist. Whilst the other two were fine-tuning the patient I asked the driver, so, how do you transport someone this ill safely'?

His reply was 'well, they load 'em into the van and then I drive like f*ck'.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Surely about 30 years of reading & posting on TWTD would have been perfect training?!

Well done on applying for the driving role tho.

Tried, but unfortunately they depend on people using mobiles to download app etc., and I can't get a signal in house - where only landline works :(

Fair play for trying.
