Got a text from manager last night that training resumes next week, seems too soon and don’t think I’ll be taking my lad, wondered what people’s thoughts are or anyone doing similar?

We are starting tomorrow, strictly following the FA guidelines over social distancing, so no contact obviously. More a case of just getting the kids back together and starting to work on fitness but involving a ball. Risk of transmission is lower outdoors so as long as the sessions are well planned and distancing is enforced can't see the issue.

Out of our13 players, 11 are attending, two not keen which is fair enough, we have said no pressure at all to attend, purely peoples personal choice.

The 11 will be split into three groups.

We are considering restarting. Beginning with two coaches' children and a couple more to see how it would work.

We've taken the decision to hold off on training until we get an idea as to when the season may well start up.

We've simply asked the boys for commitment at this juncture. The chap who helps me run my age group has a sickly father who is in and out of hospital. The very thought that he or I, one of the boys, opposition players or parents could pass this on to him makes me really uneasy and I'm well aware that there are other parents/grandparents who are sickly also.

My boy's team began last night, no real problems if it's structured correctly but it's really 'training-lite'.

TBF they haven't got within two metres of opposition players all year so no reason to think they will in training.

I'm on the committee at our local club with 40+ junior teams. It is fair to say that it is dividing opinion and becoming heated. Some are desperate to be back but they are the ones that seem to take kids football too seriously and seem to put their ego and winning ahead of the purpose of kids enjoyment. My personal view is that it isnpkintless rushing back, the sessions are going to be awkward and there is too much room for issues to occur. Not just CV19 but inclusion, development and enjoyment should be the priority

Speak to your coach and ask what they are doing?

Ball work, outside - with no tacking / game - can't see any issues at all personally - so long as the kids follow the instructions.

If you go along - you can judge for yourself - and withdraw junior if you feel there is inappropriate contact/closeness.

The benefits to junior from the social interaction and exercise are also positive and worth taking into account.

Poll: This new lockdown poll - what you reckon?

You should check the club's insurance covers it. This is not confirmed yet and the FA guidance is confusing matters, most local FAs have not backed it. The FA guidance is always geared towards pro team set up opposed to village teams

I'd be interested in knowing if they're planning any kind of amateur football being allowed soon, obviously I don't want to play until it's safe but I am really missing playing.

SIL have set a provisional date of October but that's factoring in a lot of permutations from here 'til then.

Christ, so I won't be playing any time soon then as I'm currently only playing Monday's at Ipswich Academy and a couple of five a side groups.

Might give a couple of old SIL managers a text to see if they're in need of a Jonathan Douglas type, just so I can get a bloody game in ASAP.

Seems crazy that they're getting kids back into training now if they're not even considering the adults until October.

Not football I know but my hockey club are looking at October starts ( suspect England Hockey have indicated that is when they would like to re-start safety permitting obviously ) as we have employed a proper coach for the first time in years and I've been told to start Umpire planning for the season ahead.

Should add our season pretty much starts in October anyway, we do have a lot of summer hockey games though that we are missing out on and pre-season friendlies start in September.

Not sure about junior hockey though if I see the person who runs the juniors I'll ask her ( she lives round the corner and see her on my walks/exercise most days! ) what they are planning.

Yep, I don't think there's a hurry but we have the caveat of a new youth league starting for 2020-21 on a Saturday, which means we need to get confirmation of intentions. *sigh*

Have I misread your first paragraph though - you're not actually playing 5-a-side currently are you??

No mate, I'm a sensible Simon and am abiding the rules, didn't mean "currently" in such a literal sense, just not signed on with a Saturday or Sunday team at the moment.

Started last week here. Kids split into groups of 5 and given a time for a session in the park. They then get 30 minutes training with maintained social distancing. Then the next group of 5 kids comes to have their session.

We didn't go last week, might consider it this week as seemed to work pretty well from what people have said.

Gotcha! I'd be extremely jealous if you were.

I was in 2x indoor 6-a-side groups per week - I might get back to a game in 2022...

Yes, we started Monday, all good. Kids loved it, just being outside seeing their mates and having a run around. 5 kids to 1 coach. 3 groups.

No issue.

We have decided not to. We don’t want to put pressure on our coaches or parents at this stage. Will look again in July.
We’re also helped in this by our training venues being closed at the moment. However in previous years, this hasn’t stopped coaches putting sessions on in public parks. We’re not sanctioning that at the moment. The guidance from our FA has been if you have any doubts, don’t.

Clearly not appropriate- unless they are saying it will be groups of 6 and all socially distanced.

Pointless too, given the season does not start for 2 and a half months.

That's the set up, groups of 6 but older kids (can't recall the age break) can have 1x coach "overseeing" 2 to 3 groups with social distancing rules applied.

It's not workable in my opinion, we won't be training 'til we know when we're starting and will ramp up activity accordingly.

You can do little exercises- but given there is no season for a long time yet, its hard to see what the purpose is.

You also have all the parents arriving, parking, touching gates, coaches opening up, touching all the balls and kits etc etc.

All feels a bit silly to me. Either the nation is getting on with it all, or it is not. At the moment the guidelines seem to mitigate against this.

We had a zoom meeting the other night and someone mentioned throw ins that I'd not even thought of as an issue before.

It's not workable currently.

For our U-11's it served a purpose in that it got them in the outdoors, seeing their team mates again, and they had a football session. They absolutely loved it.

3 groups, each with a coach. 1 - shooting drill (no 2 players even close) 2 - fitness (3 x 400m laps of track, set off at 50 metre intervals) 3 - strength and conditioning (at least 2 metres apart)

No 'match' at the end, so zero contact.

Dorset FA guidelines are clear, and if followed, they are happy for this initial type of training.

2 metre distancing. No touching the football with hands. Every child has a parent there, parents social distancing. Masks available for first aider in case of a serious knock.

We are fortunate with the venue. Huge open space, no gates to touch to get in or out, ample parking.

Finally, it's down to the parents/kids whether they come along, no pressure. 11 of the 12 were there.
