I used to religiously by Q, The Word, Mojo and Uncut every month since they all started publishing.

Then came Readly, which gives you online access to those and several other titles for just £7.99 a month. A Spotify for magazines.

Saw the announcement in the latest edition of Q that this one could well be the last. Covid has hit the publishing industry hard. I was reading that thE Spectatornis one of the few to actually increase its revenue during the crisis because it got ahead of the Competition by heavily pushing subscriptions a few years ago.

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over

I think Q fell into the trap of trying to appeal to a much younger readership that it had previously done.

I may be coming from this as somebody who has gotten older but I can’t remember the last tine I read an album review in Q.

The album review was the first page I would search for in Q. Now I just flick through saying to myself “Don’t know them. Nope, no idea who they are. Never heard of him. Never heard of her.”

Mojo and Uncut still manage to get the balance right between stories about new acts and legacy artists.

It's a shame that people still read The Spectator. After all, if you're willing to stand by racist and antisemitic articles in the name of increased sales, then you're probably a bit bigoted, innit.

Although increased revenue could just be the success of an advertising team at gulling susceptible retailers out of their budgeted overhead spend, it may not indicate increased readership. Even increased readership may only indicate clicks and not anything other than a glance at a headline, not an in depth read of an article.

Mind you, it is those click bait headlines that can plant nasty little lies...

Mojo and uncut are my choices and you're right about getting the mix of old and new right. Only just about in the case of uncut mind you.

Blaming auto-correct doesn't really wash.

It can be hit or miss but is quite offbeat. Focuses on legacy acts like the Pretty Things and more offbeat new acts rather than the same old Beatles and Stones features.

If they do a Bowie feature it will most likely concentrate on his Deram stuff from the 60’s.

Isn't that the point of magazines? To bring you new stuff, not just talk to you about the stuff you already know? Otherwise how does a new band break through if all you're doing is writing about the well known bands?

MOJO and Uncut float along with their readerships intact, but are they adding new readers to the bottom of their readership pool? I'd say they're probably not, which doesn't bode well for them in the future.

One cannot be f*cked to learn how.

I'm also dyslexic, as I've told you before. multiple times.
I used to have extremely poor levels of spelling and punctuation, thankfully with a bit of hard work and the help of modern technology, I mostly manage to conceal that I'm a knuckle dragging illiterate moron, however when on my phone i'm a bit more footloose and fancy with the rules of the English language.

In short, stop being a c0ck.
