Dean Smith first manager for sack next season? 08:13 - Jul 28 with 1329 viewsMarshalls_Mullet

Dont get me wrong, I understand the relief at staying up (by the skin of their teeth), but Smith called it a magnificent achievement and seems to have been celebrating for days.

If I was the owner, having spent £150m on transfers this season, I'd be a little concerned about Smith's view on what constitutes a magnificent achievement.

Probably - teams that survive on the last day generally go down without a whimper the following season. I dont give much for Steve Bruce's chances either.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him go in the next week to be honest, "Dean has done a fantastic job but we feel we need to make this change now to take Villa forward to the next level" etc. etc.

That money was spent on about 13 players though. That much was spent by Chelsea on two players to ensure they would survive during a transfer embargo.

£150m is £150m.

Its still a big investment, and will have been made with more ambition than scraping 17th place.

Not sure how they did it either. I feel like they only scored a handful of goals since January.

Atrocious decisions such as the Sheffield United and Palace disallowed goals certainly helped though.

My money is on Bruce, if the take over ever happens at St James' Park. Even if Smith gets the boot at Villa, he's still done a good job there and his stock would still be high.

That’s where my money would be given the way they’ve finished the season.
