Does anyone else feel a sense of deja vu? 23:29 - Sep 10 with 1214 views | Nthsuffolkblue | When we played Bolton last season they were the same mess for the same reasons as Wigan are now. We started last season with some positivity and a really good run of results but many were still doubting due to the previous run and the manner of achieving the results. Even if we do again, I think the doubts will remain for many again. I really want us to do well. I don't care whether it is Lambert or someone else. However, I feel a real fear that this season is shaping up to be a repeat of last. COYB, let's see something really different from virtually the whole of the last decade and a half.

Does anyone else feel a sense of deja vu? on 05:56 - Sep 11 with 1091 views | King_ding_a_lin_g | Beating Wigan won't be enough... a win will be about how bad they are (see Bristol Rovers), lose and it's about how bad we are (see Arsenal U21). That just has to be accepted for now. It'll be like that for a while too, whoever the opposition, but hopefully the performances will be consistently above average to start with, we'll improve further into October/November and begin to look like real challengers to the top 2. It'll be hard for Lambert to find a good enough excuse if we don't win on Sunday though, baring in mind what they're going through, unless we absolutely batter them and lose/draw because of incredible bad luck or refereeing. Results will be enough for now but a section of the fans will only back down if performances are also better this season... he has made his own bed with that though to some extent.

But it's a new season , clean sheet , fresh start . I enjoyed his latest interview and thought he explained one or two the things that have happend over the last couple of weeks .Maybe we should give him a chance ? Just a thought .

I have not read the interview although I will if it appears on the front page on here, Despite the fact that I like PL as a person I have largely lost all faith in him as a manager of ITFC. You are right that it is a new season but surely we cannot just ignore what has to all intents and purposes been two years of failure so far. Things MIGHT improve but on the evidence of what has gone before I very much have my doubts.

It doesn't work like that. It being a new season doesn't magically transform everything. He's still the same manager he's been for over a decade. He's always been able to spin a good line in an interview, but one of the take homes for me from that interview is that if you believe what he says, he knew from the start that he was getting it wrong last season but he carried on anyway. Why wait until the summer to decide that actually you should probably play your preferred system and stick to it? Or is it that his boss has now told him what he needs to do and so he's trying to save face? Perhaps you can just forget everything that's happened and genuinely believe that because it's a new season everything will be different, but that kind of magical thinking isn't for me.

Struggling to argue with what you're saying BUT consider and it's a big consider ...if PL turns this around and we have an amazing season , promoted automatically ...do we forgive ? Or is it like your Mrs cheating on you which can never be forgiven ?

Forgive but probably won't forget. Last season in particular was a total disaster all of his own making. I very much hope he turns it around and we have a great season but I don't see how anyone can have much faith in him at this point. [Post edited 11 Sep 2020 8:59]

Yeah I get your sentiment to be fair .....suppose we've got to try somewhere and I really hope it works BUT there's a big BUT...been here before many times as we all know. Just hope this is the last for a few seasons to be fair . If it works for him and us then fair do's , if it doesn't then get rid ASAP

I ALWAYS have a feeling of optimism and hope on the eve of every season... whatever has gone before, and whoever is in charge and whatever the pointers are that might detract from that feeling of hope and excitement and indicate it might not actually work out the way I hope, it is still there, and has been ever since I was about 7 years old when ITFC started to get into my head and my heart... Some might call it delusional or mad/sad, but that's just the way it is and has always been for me. COYB

Does anyone else feel a sense of deja vu? on 10:36 - Sep 11 with 770 views | itfcjoe | Well ultimately for all that has been said, we have a manager who has badly failed in his 2 seasons here, who is being given a second chance if you are being generous, a third if being harsh, that they don't deserve. Has Lambert rediscovered what he has seemingly lost, or is he just following orders and trying to make the best out of it. Ultimately he is (finally) trying to implement a new way of playing and style, but is doing so without any of the goodwill he had at the start of last season where an up and down season with progress on the pitch would have been accepted. Now it is promotion or bust, quite literally, so he is an unenviable position of having to implement a new style, with no margin for error on results, off the back of one of the strangest pre seasons in living memory - going into a new season with a manager so poorly rated by the fans is never good. Under Mick, who had proven he was a good manager here previously, the fans had no time for him in the 17/18 season and every defeat was met with mass hysteria. It will be much the same this year - only difference is we should be at the top of the league as have the squad to be there.

Does anyone else feel a sense of deja vu? on 11:28 - Sep 11 with 710 views | pointofblue | I think Wigan are in an ever-so-slightly better position than Bolton were, squad wise. It sounds horrible but I’m hoping someone puts a bid in for Garner so he doesn’t play at the weekend.

Does anyone else feel a sense of deja vu? on 14:57 - Sep 11 with 630 views | Wickets | Although i must agree PL has a poor record with us and not done much for quite some time now as it looks as though we are sticking with him for a few games at least i cannot as a Town Fan see what is going to be gained by slagging him off for just about anything he does. I don't suppose i will lose any sleep if ME does decide to move on but until then i will be supporting him and the club i love even if it has got to be from my armchair.
