More good vaccine news today 09:49 - Nov 23 with 795 views | StokieBlue | So the initial analysis of the Oxford vaccine phase 3 trial is out and it is as follows: - One dosage regime provided 70% protection - Another dosage regime provided 90% protection (half dose followed by a full dose) - Indications are that it works in the elderly - Some possible indications that it ca limit asymptomatic transfer - It doesn't need to be stored at crazily cold temperatures - The UK has 100m "early access" doses which is enough for virtually the whole country https://www.theguardian.com/society/2020/nov/23/astrazeneca-says-its-coronavirus SB

Ah yes, it was off my screen so I didn't see it - I did have a quick scan. I can move over to that thread instead. SB [Post edited 23 Nov 2020 9:56]

More good vaccine news today on 10:00 - Nov 23 with 733 views | clive_baker | It's excellent news. Arguably the most encouraging yet given the logistical complexity required to roll the other ones out. Think I'm right in saying the Moderna vaccine needed 2 doses anyway. Massive respect for all involved, blows my mind some of this stuff. Further reminder, not that we need it, of how lucky we are to attract the worlds best talent to these shores.

In theory there wouldn't be an argument I don't think, although it sounds ambitious to vaccinate 20m people over just a few weeks. I think March / April is more realistic to get to the point where there's sufficient immunity among the population to bring the R well under 1 and this thing to ultimately not have enough willing carriers to survive upon. It's in everyone's interests to lift restrictions ASAP, I would think by the end of Q1 we'll be in a good spot. Just hope people don't become complacent and they hunker down for the nest 2-3 months to prevent the spread in the meantime.

Double dose ensures you get the full effects of the side effects innit.

When i first went to Nigeria, my company arranged a full set of vaccinations. Defo had to go back for a second jab for some of them. The nurse was nicknamed 'The Park Royal butcher' such was her less than gentle manner with a needle.

Depends on the vaccine. I think I had to have three jabs to get Hep B immunity.

I believe the first dose primes the immune system to recognise the virus and then the second dose strengthens the immune response. It's fairly common to have to take two or more doses of vaccines to get immunity (measles etc) although the timing between them can vary. SB [Post edited 23 Nov 2020 10:21]

Gotcha. I'm a big jesse when it comes to needles so try to avoid if possible :) Still, very good news that there are now three vaccines almost ready to roll out. Just a shame we've done so much damage already.

The microchip is too big to be delivered in one dose

My brother loves them. Only the crinkle ones though for some reason.
