Just playing along... 09:47 - Feb 27 with 795 viewsbluelagos

So the yanks get the club, ME sails off on the horizon and takes PL with him. As promised new management in the club and manager position too.

But you have to accept one of the following as part of the deal...

Sir Bobby stand gets renamed by a paying sponsor.
Sir Alf stand gets renamed by a paying sponsor.
Our club badge gets a rebrand including the stars n stripes.
Our away kit is red and white strips with some stars in the corner.
New name like say the "Ipswich all stars" adopted.
A new edge of town stadium.

Would you? Could you?

Lots of clubs have sold stadium naming rights...usually new stadiums as existing stadiums - fans would just ignore the new name making them way less valuable to a sponsor.

Reckon the stand sponsorship would be more likely tbh.

This... If the Sir Bobby and Alf Ramsay stand were called "The Wallmart Stand" and the "Kraft Food Strand" publicly, they would still be Sir Bobby and Sir Alf stands - heck, I still call them Churchman's and North Stand out of pure habit.

They are always the Churchmans and North. Nothing else. Same as the Pioneer and the Away fans and poshos stands.

Perhaps as part of the "franchise", we will have to play a handful of "home matches" in NYC.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

A long shot, but wouldn't that be the sum of it all if they came in and relocated us closer to London as a permanent base. Second nature to American franchise owners.

Wimbledon did it. And was it Maxwell that tried to fck over Reading and was it Swindon? Thames valley royals or whatever it was going to be?

Edit - Oxford and Reading.

Indeed they did do that to Wimbledon. I actually haven't heard of the Thames Valley Royals (breaks mid reply)

Go grief, this was way back almost 40 years ago. A merger of Reading and Oxford.

Impressed I half remembered it tbh.

Basically there wasn't a lot that the FA could do to stop it - the opposition came from the fans. Proper franchise stuff.

Maxwell really was a c*nit as was shown later when he "borrowed" a fck load of pension fund money to prop up his companies that still went bust - leaving a load of pensioners fcked over too.

Nice family...(Daughter is Ghislaine)
