Anyone else quite like this lineup? 14:47 - Mar 27 with 735 viewsclive_baker

I've been moaning for ages at our reliance on powder puff kids who have no demonstrable record, just apparent potential. At the risk of sounding like Alan Hansen or Mick McCarthy this feels like the first time in however long where we seem to be predominantly made up of actual adults. Street wise, senior professionals.

Ward, Norwood, Chambers back in the middle, KYV is a very wise and cerebral head on youngish shoulders, Judge, Sears, Norwood. Edwards even. I feel like the ceiling is perhaps lower with this group than some of the so called promising young players who show glimpses of something every so often, but the floor is considerably higher with this XI, and we really need to find a level of consistency across the side. With some wild cards
and potential match winners off the bench.

Downes is still a big blow and the middle makes me nervous with Bishop and Dozzell playing together, ideally for me its 1 from 2 with them, but aside from that I quite like this lineup.

Anyone else?

Cook's been picking quite similarly experienced line-ups since he got here, hasn't he?

Not massively sold on it, no. It's pretty pedestrian. Many of the kids haven't grabbed their chance, but several of the senior pros in this side have been largely poor as well. We'll see how the game transpires, but it's not a line up that gets the juices flowing.

It's a sign that Cook's looked around at the younger players and decided they're not up to it, basically.

Still Dozzell and Bishop in the engine room.

I think there's still a question of form and fitness over a few too many players, neither Bishop or Edwards has regained early season form since coming back from injury and, obviously, given how long KVY has been out for it could go any number of ways.

I did think that Ward's decent break has seen him come back looking a lot sharper - I wouldn't have been too surprised had he never played again after Peterborough away - and with that the experience which was a key part of our good start.

I can see how it could work, looks solid enough at the back but we've had so few good 90 minute performances this season I'm a little dubious until we actually start.

Big game this one though, we'll all be a lot happier with three points at 5 pm.

I really don't rate Wilson. Experienced he may be but Chambers centrally is a much better option for me.

As for further forward, he started Parrott, Bennetts and Harrop at Gillingham which was horrible, especially Harrop.
Lankester vs. Lincoln who was absolutely awful.
Plymouth lineup was much better IMO, with Parrot in behind Jackson. Better performance too.
Bennetts back in vs. Pompey, can't stand him. No end product at all.

I think we also look a completely different side with Norwood in it.

I'd say Wilson is both quicker and more dominant in the air than Chambers, both of which count for something.

After the team was announced, I posted this on another thread.

I like it. If KVY breaks down or tires, Wolfenden comes in and Chambers goes to right back. There is enough experience and guile to cause problems for a young Wigan team; and as substitutes, Hawkins and Jackson offer distinctly different options for freshening up the attack. Wigan 1, Ipswich 2, COYB.

ITFC shall rise like a phoenix from the ashes of its long decline!

Sears and Ward had a good partnership at the stsrt of the season. Let's hope they can rediscover thatform together.

I'd have thought it's no more than a new man coming in treating the squad with a clean slate and looking at what he's got in training.

He's not going to pick a side based on what we know or believe to be the right one.

He's got a large squad, is still getting to know them and will want to try a few things out.
