A bit older than Downes and Flynn has the chance to become a top player but would we be happy to sign him for similar money as we might receive for Flynn as long a we get a decent sell on clause ?
Crooks is already a top, top player, Downes has potential, but was poor last season.

It seems as though Downes wants out and is on his way out......and I think Crooks would be a cracking signing so on that basis yep would be happy with that

Yes, I'd have your arm off. It seems fairly clear that Downes wants to move on, he'll probably go on to be a top Championship player in the future, perhaps beyond, but I doubt it'll be with us. Crooks on the other hand is an incredibly useful player already who can help us get out of this division and the hit the ground running in the one above.
In short, we need players with the right attitude and who are going to do the business for us here and now. Not sulky kids who may or may not get on board and show their worth in the future.

Of course all this speculation about Crooks falls down if we make an offer that suits Rotherham, but the player himself is not remotely interested in a dropping a division.

Why would Downes be interested in swapping to a fellow League 1 club with a lot lower platform to ply his trade with ?
Surely he's after Championship football right ?
Yeah he probably wouldn't to be fair, but I do think he perhaps needs to lower his sights a bit off the back of last season. Otherwise he could find himself rotting in our U23s.
