Improvements to the stadium 09:50 - Jul 19 with 1662 viewsC_Jam_Blue

Just read the Mark Ashton interview about the stadium in the EADT. No mention of replacing stands which I imagine is a long way down the line given the probable cost. As well as a general clean up and maintenance issues he mentioned a few specific projects it looks like the club are considering in the near future.

Changing large numbers of seats
Pitch improvements
Replace track around the pitch
Safe-standing area
Big Screens

All welcome I think but would people generally agree these are the priorities or would you add others to this list.

I’m sure someone will correct me. I thought you could only have safe standing in L1 and L2. Championship and above are subject to the Taylor report so not permitted under the regs.

Or has that changed?

To be fair its going to take them longer to sort out the off the pitch mess left by Evans than the one on the pitch!

"In England and Wales all-seating is a requirement of the Premier League and of the Football League for clubs who have been present in the Championship for more than three seasons."

I thought as much. There is no sign of the government changing this, they rejected an application from WBA a few years back, saying that all seater stadia was still the safest option.

Seems an odd consideration for a stadium improvement when we aren't planning on stopping in this league much longer.

I just want some decent toilets which also have hot taps which give out hot water and hand driers which work. I'm always embarrassed when I have to pretend I know the guy walking out of the toilets in front of me with a tap (crafty wipe down) on his shirt and 'Hi how are you? ..... oh sorry I thought you was someone I knew from a few years ago"

Tidy up the corner of Sir Alf/Cobbold stand.. its the first bit of the stadium you see as you arrive at Portman Road and its a real mess... Poxy little turnstile and looks out of place with the rest of the stadium.

Plus the players tunnel corner (from the inside) looks a bit naff.

RIP Sir Bobby

The legislation is expected to soon be changed/relaxed.

Wolves and Spurs have installed rail seating already. Chelsea, Liverpool and Man Utd are doing it this summer. City, West Ham etc also planning it.

Can someone explain the appeal of a big screen? I don’t get it.

Someone, I think Ashton, has mentioned replacing the dug outs.
Given what he did at Bristol you’d think the concourses would become more pleasant places to be.

Sponsorship is a big part of the big screens draw for owners.
