The Queen kept her own counsel for many years, as was the way earlier in her reign, however, in more recent times she has been able to express her opinions to a wider audience. You make a good point her being switched on, she is and has been a fine ambassador for the nation and despite the wealth and privilages she undoubtedly has is a very wise lady who genuinly has the countries best interests at heart.
I do, ofcourse, expect much grief for this opinion.

I used to be quite an anti royalist, but my view has softened a bit over the years. Well to the Queen not the rest. My nan got me to change my mind on it. She said, Imagine being hated by half the country you represent just because you were born, imagine never being allowed to do what you really want because you are always told where you can and can't go, to have to be polite to truly despicable people because you aren't allowed to speak your mind freely. To be constantly watched and scrutinised by everyone around you. A prison is still a prison, even if the walls are covered in gold.
As I have felt all that too, I understood. And whilst she lives a luxury life we could only dream of, she is trapped in it, she has none of the freedoms I hold dear. I would never do her job out of choice. Screw the rest of the self centred ones though.
What is the use of knowing about everything else, when you do not yet know who you are.
