Is he too good not to force his way into this side? It's funny really because his signing has slipped somewhat under the radar given the number we've signed, however, in terms of pedigree he's arguably the most impressive of the lot. May not be a sexy signing but he's a player with pushing 100 Premier League appearances under his belt and by all accounts QPR's best player before his injury last year.

I wonder if we might see him Tomorrow, actually. Evans isn't anywhere near Carroll on the ball and off the ball he's been nowhere near it so far.

Agree. Morsy and Carroll will surely end the season as the two (injuries permitting and a stratospheric improvement from Harper notwithstanding)

Maybe, but Cook has wanted to reunite Evans and Morsy since he arrived. They played d something like 80 games together. I like Carroll but he is very much a slick ball player not a grafter based on the few times I’ve seen him.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

He's clearly a very good player. I just wonder whether he is physical enough to play the type of Cm role that PC's system needs...

Carroll's experience and pedigree shines through when he does get on. He immediately directs and organises teammates around him. Hes excellent at retaining the ball and laying off to a blue shirt. He could well play a much bigger part than he has so far.

He's been signed as one of the 2 pivots though, so surely Cook thinks he can definitely play there. Evans' defensive stats at the moment read 0 interceptions, a feeble 0.6 tackles per game, whilst also leading the team on fouls and number of times dribbled past, so we're not exactly losing a lot of defensive work if we drop him.

I still don't see why Evans & Harper have come in for so much stick (exc. Evans error v MK).

I think they are a decent pair, both physically very well built, technically good, and have a decent balance to them.

They do probably lack that defensive instinct that Morsy will bring.

Pairing for me needs to be - Morsy + Harper /or Morsy + Evans

Well probably because they've barely made a tackle between them so far.

I was going to say the same thing - cook must think he can play there or he wouldn't have signed him. I understand why it's sensible to have two units in there but personally i'd always have a ball-player first and foremost. And yes, i was a big fan of andre dozzell.

People thought Dozzell was poor defensively but his 2020-21 defensive stats look pretty decent in comparison to Harper and Evans so far (the comparison with Downes is even more painful).

Tackles
Dozzell 1.7
Harper 0.8
Evans 0.6

Interceptions
Dozzell 1.5
Harper 0.6
Evans 0

Fouls
Evans 2.6
Dozzell 2
Harper 0.4

Dribbled past
Evans 1.2
Dozzell 0.5
Harper 0.2

He seems to be a bit of a forgotten man - despite having the best pedigree out of any of our signings

Evans has won just 20% of his midfield duels, there is one other CM relatively close to him, but 3rd on the list is miles away from him - has been really poor (Morecambe aside)

It would be crazy to think that both Harper and Carroll wouldn't be good enough to get into a L1 side in that scenario. If that's what comes to pass, and we finish top 6 though, who cares?!
