The muppets on the left of the party, who heckled him whilst talking about his mothers death, felt that waving a card the colour of their party will be seen as a protest about him 'giving him the red card' opposed to looking like support of him

They should really have given him the blue card.

Was a bit weird. Lots of weird shouts. I get why there are certain complaints of Starmers leadership, I have a few myself.

But I thought it was a good speech, was please to see Labour actually admitting that the previous government did something good, still don’t think he can beat Johnson, but there you go.

Yep - this conference has really been used to purge the left of the party and set it back up in a place where it may be able to win an election from.

The bit re levelling up at the end very important, and Labour have spent too long embarrassed by the New Labour period which actually delivered real change to real people.

The fact a Shadow Minister resigned this week over not pushing for a £15 minimum wage and a statutory sick pay at those rates just shows how much they actually care about getting elected on that wing.

That faction don't care about being elected, they just want to be seen to be 'right'.

Ex-MPs like Laura Pidcock are an example. She lost her seat under a Corbyn manifesto that she is now whinging that Starmer isn't copying.

If find it bizarre that the hard left of the party, which dominated under Corbyn, still think they have any chance of election on that platform???

Whilst I support some of its ideals.

It’s unelectable.

Can they not see that supporting a centrist move and leader is the only way to get this damaging Tory government out of power??

And being in power is how you get your policies enacted.

McDonald was saying Starmer should look at Biden for how to bring together a party, even when Biden has switched a few positions since election.

While also failing to realise the 'left' of the Dems have also stood behind Biden for the main, not heckled him while he talked about the death of a family member.

Great to see a united Labour party for a change, haha!

There will then be complaints from people that nobody from the left is in the cabinet, cause they are all leaving.

I think a combination of what new labour did with education and with the NHS, with fresh new policies, such as mental health hubs, a green new deal. Is a good base to build a manifesto on. I’m still not sure he is managing to hammer the message home to those who aren’t active followers of politics. But he has time to work on that.

But that speech was Blair-esque just without the extra shine.

It’s not the hard left of the party. It’s people who believe in socialist or at least genuine social democratic policies to address major issues that are currently being ignored.

Those policies are popular when presented to people on the street. It’s only the “unelectable” or “not credible” packaging that’s given to that kind of policy platform by the mainstream media and establishment politicians that prevents these frequently better alternatives being debated.

But Biden embraced the left in an electoral coalition and has taken on some of its issues.

Starter is entirely rejecting the left (and its voters) because it’s not about winning an election anytime soon. It’s really about shoring up the left side of the establishment.

Her record is phenomenal.

May 2017 - loses a Northumberland council safe seat to the Tories on a 25% swing.

December 2019 - loses North West Durham, a seat held by Labour with an 8000 majoirty, despite being one of the main voices in the PLP advocating the snap election, spending Election Day outside her constituency and not preparing a concession speech.

April 2020- runs Richard Burgon’s deputy leadership campaign and finishes 3rd, behind Rosena Allin Khan, who even political geeks like me hadn’t heard of at the time.
