FT Summary 21:51 - Nov 5 with 1253 viewschrismakin

Credit to col u. Got the win on a strange pitch.
But it was rather an anti climax of a cup fixture.

Wasn't expecting tippy tappy open football but, and probably sounding harsh, but I felt sudbury just showed to much respect to a side that didn't really warrant it.

That's not taking anything from col u.. it's just normally the underdog at least has a bit of drive and desire, but this has probably been the worse cup game I've seen on tele.
Credit to the young sudbury keeper. Wkj mentioned that was his 3rd game as a keeper.. what a night for him.

Sudbury needed to press and press and okay higher up in the first half, may have had a chance then.

As is the norm in these sort of games once the first goal goes in for the ‘favourites’ it’s usually game over.

You're taking this too seriously - I'm disappointed there were no red cards, player punch-ups, referee intimidation or inflatable willies in the crowd - all very tame, bring back mudbath pitches I say....

You are the obsolete SRN4 to my Fairey Rotodyne....

Any side that plays on a plastic pitch deserves to lose. Football is played on grass.

Whilst I agree, grass is always better, for a club like Sudbury an artificial surface is needed.

Why?

Because it can be used all day every day if needed.

They have loads of teams that use it, women, academy, first team.

They can hire it out and make money from it.

If they had a big standard grass pitch it wouldn’t be possible to maintain.

I always play better on grass, I stay calm and it feels like I have more time to make a decision.

I can't believe you couldn't think of a reason or needed to ask that question, tbh.

Because nearly every non league side hasn't got one so why are Sudbury so special. I haven't been down there ever to watch football but do remember they had two pitches. One was a practice pitch and the other the main pitch. If they have only got one pitch now then fair enough but if they still have two then the main pitch should be grass imho.

A fair chunk of non-league clubs now have 3G pitches - nearly a quarter of clubs in the Isthmian League play on them. And there are a couple of others in Suffolk (Newmarket and Haverhill Borough).

Because it's a valuable source of income? With a club, taking Sudbury as an example, that has many different teams at different age groups - both male and female - they can all use it without damaging a grass pitch. Then there's also the weather aspect which means it won't get waterlogged, snowed or bare goal mouths etc.

Not every club can afford it, but with a club with many different teams, it will also save on hire venues for all the different age groups and wear and tear of grass pitches and is an essential purchase by Sudbury.

Also, it opens up the scope to let out the pitch to the community. All pretty big financial reasons why they have it.

Kirkenes FC in the north of Norway used to have a grass pitch, but the reindeer kept eating it, so they had to put down an artificial pitch.

I once wandered through Kirkenes at night, admiring the spectacular aurora borealis. A Wordworthian moment was interrupted by some totally incongruous c-word-rich 'banter' in Yorkshire and London accents that seemed to come out of nowhere. The RAF, it turned out.
