The first 45 my mum ever bought me was Gary Glitter I Love You Love Me Love.
I then used my pocket money to buy the latest releases from GG, Alvin Stardust, Slade, Wizzard and The Sweet. Wasn’t really into TRex, and Bolan was pretty much finished by then anyway.

Saw The Sweet supporting Rainbow (well, Richie Blackmore and no other original members) a few years ago. They certainly held their own.
Yeah. They really came into their own when Mickie Most started to let them write their own material rather than from the Chinn/Chapman production line.
And of course Slade absolutely owned the Reading Rock Festival in 1980.

Bolan was a musical God
We have no village green, or a shop.
It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub.

Nobody has mentioned the greatest glam rockers of the lot and the greatest glam rock song. Ladies and gentlemen....
Good call, I still have find memories of teenage discos highlighted by Tiger Feet, Blockbuster, Ballroom Blitz, Metal Guru, The Jean Genie and Cum on Feel The Noize.
And how can we not mention the legendary Mott The Hoople, rescued from obscurity by Bowie's donation of All The Young Dudes.

I saw Gary Glitter at the Gaumont circa 1980. If only we knew....
