Is it time for an independent and more transparent time keeping system? A running clock which stops each time play stops and ends at 90. Every one in the ground could see it. A bit like rugby.

It might not stop teams like Oxford taking every opportunity to break the flow of the game but at least us fans and the more offensive-looking teams would not lose out in terms of time.

Refs (particularly at our level) don’t seem strong enough to cut out the dark tactics by some of these teams and never add on enough time. So frustrating today. Not for the first time this season.

Nope. In the same way VAR hasn't improved the game...this wouldn't either.

Just a further erosion of what makes football football.

Happens all the time in the Champ and L1 and referees completely ignore it on the whole.

Yup. Works great in rugby league, which is probably the closest analogy to football. Also could have a 'shot clock' for things like throws-in and goal kicks... No, too much.

A time clock will come. 2 30 minute halfs, with an off field timekeeper. I would rather the ref paid full attention to what the 22 cheats on the field are getting up to than have him fiddling with his timepiece.

It is when the opposition do it, it isn't when it's us. If that helps?

Sh1t teams parking the bus and killing time from the 20th minute onwards doesn’t make football football. It’s tedious.

Part of the game.

Teams can approach football in different ways...some are easier on the eye than others but it really is part of football and shouldn't be taken away.

Futsal has a rule about how long it should take for a goal kick or throw (equivalents). I think this would work. 8 seconds from spotting the ball, 6 seconds from ball in hand (for throw) as we still have the six seconds for ball in hand for keeper and drop kick. No need for anything else, swap possession if you don't complete in time (indirect free kick on the edge of the six yard box would be fun!).

No more part of the game than diving is and I’m sure nobody would object to that being stamped out for good

"the more offensive-looking teams "

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, what might be offensive to some might be attractive to others (ask Mrs Beardsley).

Otherwise, when it is time added on, it should not be beyond the refs ability to signal that the time has been stopped, as with his watch.

This would apply to stuff that is not in the normal rune of play..... injuries, substitutions and other delays.

It seems pointless booking the goalie. An extra minutes play would be a better sanction.

One other point away from the time. When are the 'arcs' around the corner flag going to be increased ? The current domension was drawn up way back when teams were playing on open areas. You are permitted unlimited (within reason) run up for a goal/free/penalty kick.
