The problem is, anyone who does will find themselves attached to the next missile fired.

This is just sabre rattling. He would be obliterated and he knows it.

Russia will seek a peaceful way out within 48 hours. They miscalculated badly and need an escape road.

Too hopeful I fear. Nothing indicates Putin leaves Ukraine without being able to declare some kind of ‘victory’

The equivalent of football managers and mutual consent

We can all speculate as to what will happen from now.

All I can say is that i'm not ashamed to admit i feel scared.

He is unpredictable, but nuclear is even a step too far for him based on everything we know already

His generals will know it destroys Russia

Oh, for sure it will need to be packaged as a ‘victory’ for Putin so he can justify his actions.

Just depends how big a victory he wants!?

Independence for the areas in the East he is ‘defending’ is a given.
Presumably a commitment from Ukraine never to join NATO.

But how much more!?

Up until last week Putin was a tyrant, but sane and pragmatic.

He is no longer sane and pragmatic.

Always wondered what it must have been like living through the Cuban Missile Crisis. Now we getting close, I'm left in denial - its a safe place, I highly recommend it.

Only this is, I was there when they were on the border. Then they attacked. Denial has been breached.

Suddenly things which just 'can't happen these days' like pandemics and wars seem a hell of a lot more likely.

Truly impaired.

I'm sure you don't know the answer but thinking out loud and all that...

I wonder what the process is in Russia with regards to unleashing that level of destruction upon other nations.

I would assume here and the US there will be several levels of security and agreement to go through before launching a nuclear weapon, but at the same time I suppose if it's in response to another nuclear attack there's not much time to mess about so the protocol would be considerably different to that of striking first.

If nuclear war broke out, we're going to need a bit more than some iodine tablets. It's basically just the end of a lot of life on this planet. Very much a game over scenario.

As one of our official Eastern European correspondents - Do you think Putin will force Belarus to get involved in order to widen the offensive?

I think it's up to the Russian people or generals now. Should Putin's finger go as far as hovering over the button will someone decide enough is enough?

If the invasion of Ukraine goes wrong I can see Putin losing what little reason he has left - that's my concern.
