I see the spectre of Ashton being the Devil incarnate 16:25 - Mar 22 with 1972 views | Cheltenham_Blue | has raised its head again since Dyer resigned yesterday. Going well, unbeaten in 10, rock solid defence the best squad for the league that we've had in eons, an ownership group that will stop at nothing it seems. Yet some on here constantly looking for the serial killer in the cloud rather than the silver lining. I'll be honest, I get KD's frustration with players, but we are going for the playoffs still, unlikely, but still possible, I really don't want inexperienced kids in there right now, we play the strongest team we have, end of discussion. When its all over, then lets see what Simpson, Humphries and Baggott have. But for me, getting out of this league this year or next trumps everything. KD resigning now feels like a knee jerk reaction, he of all people should know that the U23s won't trouble anything until its mathematically out of reach. And he of all people should know that with a bloated squad, the first team players missing out, will always come first.

I’m pissed off all this has come out if I’m honest. Massive feel good factor around the club, and a few dents and digs starting. From the TT lot, to KD now saying what he is. Why couldn’t they go separate ways and leave it at that? [Post edited 22 Mar 2022 17:59]

I only see one of them had said 4 draws in 6 was poor or something, and old cruncher got the hump… which tbf, I am siding with old crunchie there

Ah, saw someone retweet the “fisherman” who said KM should go if we don’t go up next season. The fact TT give him a platform says everything

I hope he gets a decent opportunity at club management, does a brilliant job and is a genuine candidate to replace KM when he eventually moves on. As for now, it really isn’t a big deal.

It all depends on how we fail to gain promotion doesn’t it? I know we have to go up but I don’t like the idea of us sacking a manager if we don’t achieve that goal. We’ve sacked managers previously & been just as sh1t under the new man & sometimes even worse.

I don't think we will have to worry, still think we're gonna win it next season, but if we didn't go up, I appreciate why he said what he did, most said about PC failure to go up and he's gone, why would it be allowed to be different? no massive bomb squad, 3 windows by the time we get to the end of the season etc etc. I thought those jumping in on him for saying it were a bit harsh, and some of them did indeed say the same thing about PC .

Timing is everything, isn't it? Given our resources, every season we remain in L1 is a bit of a failure, regardless of the precise form it comes in. But I think it's worth waiting until a manager is actually stuffing things up before speculating about what happens if they keep stuffing up...

I see the spectre of Ashton being the Devil incarnate on 22:00 - Mar 22 with 1190 views | unstableblue | I have always felt there was a risk with Ashton, he doesn’t have a good track record, he’s too emotive (ironic as that is a valid criticism of Dyer), it feels like he’s giving mgmt consultancy a bad name with his Brent speak, and a touch of cronyism. BUT, the McKenna hire has been a master stroke. And I think McKenna would have played U23s by now if good or fit enough, and El Miz and Simpson were going to play recently, and Baggot has been on the bench. Also I do think the club does have youth progression in the vision. Plus I understand why McGreal was brought in. Would have been interested to see if Keiron could get a tune out of the squad for the Charlton game - we’ll never know.

Is bringing in people you know and trust cronyism or sensible? Mowbray takes Venus with him. Burley took Dale Roberts. McKenna has his assistant, Cook brought in people he knew including Percy the pants washer, Royle (good manager) Donachie and so it goes on. Their choice. Why would Ashton or anyone employ a stranger when they can bring in somebody they know and are comfortable with? It’s the way the world goes round. If the club stops growing/fails to get promoted, I suspect Ashton will be out anyway. Americans’ patience is generally short! The beard and the cap are issues and I’d like to know more from Ashton about the Dyer situation and why the Cook saga was such a mess. But bye and large, I’m struggling to see what he’s done wrong other than upset a few Bristol City cave dwellers. But for them, would his name be even raised in relation to this or anything else? I doubt it. Without them, I suspect his relationship with McGreal, McKenna would be the things that were challenged first. As for Charlton game, I doubt Guardiola could have done much about that game. The fact that JM, KD and the players got it together for the next three does them all enormous credit. Re youth progression/players, Dyer himself said it’d stagnated for years in his summer interview. Lee the same. I would like to hear from Ashton what the plan for it is. They’re looking to upgrade the clubs facilities from the pitiful level Evans had allowed them to decay to, but how is it intended to work? For the u23s something better than a refuse bin for an overblown, oversized disaffected squad I hope. When play off chances end, I hope the young players mentioned get their chance ahead of loanees, but not until then, unless KM thinks they’ve got what he needs.
