FM 22 thoughts 21:41 - May 4 with 1593 views | ibbleobble | Late to the party I know but I resisted the annual ‘upgrade’ knowing it would be nominal at best, and so it’s proved. Other than the new match engine, which is improved, it’s another data base update with an even more cluttered UI and no attention applied to anything fans have been crying out for. There’s so much they could do with this game but it feels like any major upgrade is a long way off and they’ve nailed themselves to the cross with the templates they’ve invested heavily in. What are everyone else’s thoughts? Happy with the ‘22 version or were you left disappointed like me?

Pretty much except it has more layers of data without any effort in storytelling or narrative. There’s a gaping hole in this game, which it amazes me they haven’t upgraded yet. There’s no emotional connection to any of the squad or back room staff. You spend countless hours crafting the squad but there’s no real attachment to them. They could massively amplify this with player personality and incidents or data told and presented through different formats like how we receive it every day. Scheduled timetables of a manager’s day organised through personnel you build relationships with. Off field incidents, on field / off field club politics etc. I think it needs a major overhaul soon. After clicking around a bit, I realised I’m only invested in about 10% of the functionality and I can still win a lot without the rest of the functions.

This got my mate hooked again too. I’ll check it out. I heard there’s a lot more 20 ratings than in the current version.

SI Games have announced several times that they'll never do off-field events because of the massive libel suits they could face as a result and it isn't worth their time and effort to code such events only for fictional players (ie newgens).
FM 22 thoughts on 23:32 - May 4 with 1372 views | wkj | My typical approach to FM is that I will buy it when it goes on sale the following off season. FM22 isn't a bad iteration, but it was a minor update this time.

Have to disagree with them regarding fictional characters, it’d add so much more realism to the game. Football manager should be about the inner workings of a club and the politics that go with that. I feel if they don’t do something like this soon, they’ll begin to lose market share.

Whenever CM/FM added more AI stuff I found it got really boring and frustrating. It’s also not very good at it. The press conferences were a random series of questions where there was never a way to make a “right” answer. Also, I’m not sure I’d want things like scheduled timetables as that’s like going to work. I feel it worked best when there were enough tactics and other bits of game data to make it seem you were having an effect on things, but it didn’t become a slog to trawl through it. I bought FM21 and it was pretty dull, to be honest. 01/02 was the best. Back then you made the stories out of the way events unfolded and players did or didn’t develop. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Yeah agreed. It’d be good to see a selection or entry point process for the type of manager you want to be to determine the fidelity of the experience ie: training ground manager, man manager, tactician, run the club etc. At the moment there’s a bunch of arbitrary values to decide on that mean nothing in the game. The above would provide the right type of balance or level setting for different types of users.

I think it needs to work on the different experiences - with a sliding scale between Director of Football and Head Coach. I like to almost be a Head Coach but you still have to set the budgets etc, and unless you free up more wages they will bid for players then offer them £100 a week when they went £40,000 etc. Not a good user experience. I've played this one a fair but but it's not grabbed me

FM 22 thoughts on 10:56 - May 5 with 982 views | clive_baker | I properly go through phases with FM. I won't touch it for months and months, then I'll fire up a save and really get into it for a week, then won't load it up again for 6 months. Must say it's getting less and less frequent though, I bought the latest version but have played it less than I've played any version ever I think. As Dubbers said I also shot my load a bit through lockdowns so probably a bit of fatigue, and more home working means more screen time rather than breaking for meetings / commuting etc previously, I think it's made me less inclined to look at a screen in my spare time as I've also watched sod all telly for the past couple of years.

FM 22 thoughts on 13:37 - May 5 with 844 views | Stu_Magoo | I ended up putting the "Touch' version on my tablet a couple of years ago for a long plane journey. Was a stripped back iteration that removed a lot of the bloat accumulated over recent years. Increased my enjoyment no end. I swear when I bought FM21 for my laptop, the Touch version was bundled in for free?
