Back in the 1980s when male strippers were a novelty and were frowned upon by various organisations, performances by The Chippendales were frequently raided by various police forces. On one such occasion- I think in New York - the women in the crowd went crazy because they thought that the police (and bizarrely the Fire Department) were part of the art.
The manager of the group noticed this and brought up old police, fireman etc uniforms and put them in the act, something which hadn’t been done before. And that’s why a lot of male strippers wear such uniforms.
