I got called up once in my early 20s, but I was overseas for an extended period and they let me off. I've not had another summons since. I imagine 95% of it is really boring, but a few cases would end up giving you nightmares.

Yes once, was an interesting experience. The case I did was historical sex offences, lasted a week and then they didn’t have most of us back for a second week, was gutted haha.

My son was called up about 3 mouths after his 18th birthday. He had an 11 day case. Not a major case, but it was for the victim.

I've told this story more than once on here and it's 100% true . I got back from holiday once and had a letter on the floor asking me to attend jury service. At the time I was earning good money so didn't want to jeopardise it and had a young family( jury service wouldn't have got close) so in the section that said is there any reason you wouldn't be suitable for jury service I said that if the person on trial came from Norfolk I would find them guilty. Absolutely stupid and quite pathetic I agree but I was only 23. I've never been asked since.

Was called up in 2019. Never actually made it in to court, had a text each day to say that I was not required but to remain available.

I got called once, but was moving out of the area so was binned out. That was my one and only time, thank goodness.

I was asked to take part in an identity parade once. That was a bit strange. I kept wanting to shout ‘it wasn’t me guv!’, but discretion was the better part of cowardice.

'overseas for an extended period ' is your way of saying 'I was in a Thai prison for five years', isn't it?

Shame on you. As a citizen of the UK with responsibilities to see justice… Ah feck it, who am I kidding. That’s hilarious!

Got called up a couple of years ago, just after Xmas. Nothing for a couple of days, then was asked to come in. They call 15 people for a jury of 12, my name was first. Was given the background on the case, then into the courtroom where after the charges were read out the judge started calling the jurors. In reverse order. I wanted to shout out to the judge to shuffle the cards but thought better of it. Didn't make the cut.

And that was that. Kept an eye on the case. Was an interesting one, the guy was clearly guilty and made the news.

I've done it 3 times now, 1st time had 1 short case and a difficult young child molesting case by a stepfather which ran into a 3rd week. 2nd time had 1 case rest of that time was spent sitting around waiting to see if I was required for another case. 3rd time was 1 case which ran for the whole 2 weeks involving rape where both were underage. Difficult case as we spent more time being asked to leave the room while the judge and legal bods discussed things, often meant we only sat as a jury a couple of hours a day. At the end we couldnt reach a unanimous decision and afterwards the clerk told us the judge didn't think we would be able to given the evidence, judge apparently was unsure if it should have even reached a court.

Did it a few months ago. Only made it into an actual courtroom twice, once for the induction and the second time to be told I didn't make the 12 (they take 16 into court and randomly lose 4). Massive anti climax and messed up two weeks of work.

I was called three years ago but name not read out when called for the case. Was sent home on the basis that they would call me if needed. On the Friday, got a phone call from the court telling me my jury service was now complete. Easiest week while being paid for my time I've had.

My wife's best friend had a really nasty one a few years ago, turned it was a re-trial after the first jury was nobbled. IIRC, the case was something to do with drug smuggling and the expat crims living on the Costas. To make sure that the new jury wasn't nobbled, all the jurors had 24 hour surveillance, with two plods in a car outside her house all the time she was in, making it obvious that was what they were doing. The hilarious part was when all 12 jurors went for a Friday afternoon drink, accompanied by all 24 plods, all drinking orange juice.

I found it quite interesting once you were actually on the jury. The boring part was waiting around when you weren't. One guy with us had been called three times.
Added, Luckily my then employers paid me my full wages, so the expenses were a nice little bonus.

I can honestly say it was the worst experience of my life. The chap who I chatted to in the interminable wait drew a very short straw. A racially-motivated murder trial of a cabbie. He was bussed to a secret hotel every night and couldn’t return to work for six weeks.

I got a got a drug smuggler and it was all done and dusted in two days. Then the fun started as you’re closeted in with your fellow jury members. Pocket Hitlers emerge, your heart sinks when you realise your fellow jury members didn’t understand the evidence and people’ concerns are child care and not going bust whilst arguing about something few people cared about. After 36 hours of that I’d have happily slit my wrists. As it was pressures of work obliged me to become the final innocent vote so I could get back to work and not being treated as a pariah for doing the right thing.

I went for a drink at the pub opposite Chelmsford Crown Court and imagine my surprise when the Dutch defendant wandered in and got himself a pint too.

I didn’t sleep properly for a week - but as I say, the chap who got the murder trial had it far worse. And it made me realise that the jury system is totally and utterly flawed.
