I don't know the details, but I didn't think we could do a windfall tax on the generators that have overseas registration addresses? Maybe that's why the EU can, because they've more companies under their jurisdiction? I really have no idea.
The optics are much better for the EU on this; they've certainly claimed the moral high ground. Their support amounts can't be working out at much per head though. We're spending £180BN to freeze prices where they are, yet people will still have seen a massive hike since the start of the year. This EU scheme will raise £120BN across the whole of the EU. Must be relatively little support per head. But then I suppose if countries are doing their own thing too, it all adds up and helps. |  |

Seems a slightly disingenuous headline figure. Split between the 27 countries of the EU, that’s £4.5bn per country - roughly in line with our £5bn.
There should be continuing windfall taxes until the situation normalises. However I’m surprised that anybody is shocked that Truss is not in favour given her delusion of a low-tax UK. |  | | |

There should be continuing windfall taxes until always.
They have a captive audience which has no choice but to purchase the product on offer and without the captive audience they have no customer.
There should be a permanent agreement in place which ensures everyone benefits from these natural resources that have been capitalised upon.
The raw naturally occurring product isn't theirs to be owned, only the means to extract it.
It's insane that life-supporting resources are permitted to be claimed and then sold on to the public in the format they are. |  |

I’m really glad they’re not forcing their European Region Development Fund, European Social Fund, INTERREG funds, Erasmus funds, European Maritime and Fisheries Fund and European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development on us, the barstewards.
Who wants to build cohesion and resilience in societies, develop sustainable activities and provide education opportunities for the young or excluded anyway. The weirdos. | |

Yep. It’s the direction of travel though. They choose to target the excess profits to help citizens. We chose to target citizens to protect excess profits (which aren’t even in the UK). And besides, the separate states can choose to do more on top, which quite a few are. | |
