LEGO Portman Road... 16:30 - Feb 10 with 2086 viewsMiaow

I have just followed @AwayDayJoe_ on Twitter, a young Town fan (from Sussex) who is really into German football and has built numerous Bundesliga stadiums in Lego form. I think they're brilliant.

I should think one or two people on here will have come across him before, what with him supporting Ipswich, and I really look forward to the day he makes his own Lego Portman Road.

This video is from his YouTube channel and is from when he was featured on BBC Breakfast a couple of years ago:

Joe is actually my son. I will show him this because he will really appreciate it. Thank you very much for supporting him.

I have been badgering him to make Portman Road for some time but he has such a love affair with German football, that has taken precedence.

But he has promised to build Ipswich at some point.

Despite living in Sussex we regularly watch Ipswich and will be at Bristol Rovers on Tuesday.

We’re very proud of him and what he’s achieved and he has some wonderful memories to look back on when he’s older.

A lot of people think he’s sponsored by Lego, he’s not. And a lot of people assume his parents must be wealthy, we’re not!!

He started out with enough bricks to build one stadium. After a time, he knocked that down, which was heartbreaking, and moved on to the next one.

He eventually became pretty good at it to the point where the clubs wanted to keep them to put in their museums, VIP areas or club shops.

We’ve always treated it as a fun hobby so we’ve never made a profit. The clubs just replace the bricks and Joe has an incredible experience when he goes to Germany.

Like I say, it’s created great memories for Joe and the clubs and German fans have been so welcoming.

The stadiums he builds now are amazingly detailed so I’m sure he’ll do justice to Portman Road.

This was his last Lego stadium…Eintracht Frankfurt.

Wow. That's great. Some of those clubs are getting a real bargain if you have effectively donated his creations for nothing more than the cost of the bricks and your travel expenses. That is a great hobby to have got him into. He is so eloquent and clearly as a great mind for design and engineering too.

As a massive Lego fan, these are amazing. Your son has some real talent there.

I’ve always wished I could work for Lego, they seem like an amazing employer. Your son could easily walk into a role with them if he ever wanted to in due course.

This was the feel Good Friday video I needed to watch.

Nice one!!! Looking forward to seeing the town one. Maybe get it in a forum blog too, or see if Phil will run a story on it, so it gets more exposure than just sitting in the forum.

Poll: Whats the best league to watch outside of England?

Thanks very much for the comments everyone. I showed them to Joe this morning and he was very appreciative.

He has had some amazing experiences in Germany and the clubs are very generous. Being invited on to the pitch to show your Lego stadium to 50,000 fans is something very special for him.

He is currently studying design engineering at school so who knows where it will take him but he still spends just as much time playing football and cricket and, like all kids, is very much an immovable force when it comes to the Xbox.

Dusseldorf is on his list and we have visited the stadium. But he says he needs to find a way to build the outside of the stadium which is very unique.

Thanks again. Hopefully we’ll see you at Portman Road or an away game.

He seems like a really good young man and he is clearly very talented and has a great eye for detail. I'm glad he's seen this recognition as his builds are fantastic. I hope he has had lots of fun in making them and in going to Germany. It's made me want to dig out my Lego now...
