They literally don’t care anymore. Feels like they know they’re toast and just trying to get as much from the gravy train while they can. Bent as a £9 note, this country needs to bin the Tories from government at the next opportunity and never, ever forget the contempt they’ve held for the people they purport to serve. They should never be allowed back in.

Are the IEA still a charity?

We pay 20% of this charleton's salary whilst he keeps it secret that the other 80% is paid by undisclosed parties seeking (successfully) to influence the direction of UK politics.

Really disappointing to see the IEA being the first organisation quoted in a recent BBC piece about reforming the NHS. The regular use/promotion of groups like that and the Taxpayers Alliance is infuriating.

Indeed. The BBC said a few years ago that they'd stop pretending that these Tufton St based, dark money backed far-right lobbying groups were independent "think tanks".

Then they carried on providing them with a free platform.

And here we are.

I think it is more a case of a last suicidal banzai charge.

As you say they know the game is almost up, so are gambling everything on the hope that this lunacy will deliver a big enough (temporary) boom to give them a chance at an early election. Yes, this budget will benefit the rich, but as said that is not the real intent. And if, as it looks, it will go badly wrong, will any of them be unable to pay their bills, mortgage etc ?

What it also shows is that as with Johnson, no lie or dangerous act is too far when it comes to clinging onto power. So the fear must be that Truss and her ragbag of third raters see nothing is off limits - and that is why we are where we are now.

Fck any long term planning. Save money by reducing the police/fire and ambulance services. Reduce investment in the infrastructure. Who cares about potholes, crumbling schools and hospitals.

However, the real question is what possessed Joe Public to allow these shtheads to get away with this ? Brexiters, red wallers. What the fck were they thinking.

To paraphrase John Dunne - "send not for whom the bell toll, it is the stupid fckers around you who have been tolling away for the past 12 years"

"They need us baa baa, 40 new deals on day one baa baa..........."

They don't believe they have to hide their fundamental beliefs. Up until now the electorate has supported them in it so why should they feel ashamed of it?

The difference is that the press are pointing it out to the electorate now. The big question is: Will the electorate continue to support it?

I guess that isn't actually insider trading as it was common knowledge what she was going to do anyway. And even if it were insider trading, I suppose that they weren't actually misappropriating taxpayer money so that is preferrable to the rest of the corruption this Government has been openly perpetrating for several years now.

Got to look after the hard working millionaires. Too many spongers taking far too much for a measly 40 hour week doing menial work. About time someone looked out for the big guy.

I believe the recent IR35 changes are being "junked" next April, so he could still get caught.

HMRC must be livid at Kwasi Kerching - it's taken them 25 years to get those rules on the books. Thousands of contractors have retired on the back of the changes and (as predicted) there's widespread skills shortages.

Trash their pensions and changing the rules to tempt them back into the (self-employed, obvs.) workforce.

This is the fella who’s also being questioned by the FBI as a witness to a political bribery case his company was allegedly involved in (working on behalf of the defendant, who also happens to be a Tory donor).

Makes me miss the good old days of sleaze when MPs just had kinky sex in a Chelsea shirt.

PS. Monbiot provided a good summary of the infiltration of the Tories by neoliberal think tanks funded by dark money. No longer are they lobbyists; they’re now in Number 10. Was Mellor having "kinky" sex, or is any sex in a Chelsea shirt "kinky"?

Exactly. One of the root causes as to why we have so many people in government that work against the interest of nation.

Good question. Maybe it all down to the shirt. It reminds me of a Terry Prachett line “Just erotic. Nothing kinky. It's the difference between using a feather and using a chicken”.
